NEW GUY looking for advice on optic

I'm putting together a .308 semi-auto AR-10 and am torn between two optic choices. I'd like to hear opinions on the two. I'm leaning toward the Nighforce.

    1) Vortex AMG 6-24

    2) Nightforce NX8 2.5-20

I actually just ordered both of them, the NX8 is on backorder at Mile High Shooting (got 10% off with their "WelcomeMHSA" code), so the NX8 was $1755 shipped. The Vortex AMG was $2200 shipped. I've always been attracted to Nightforce because of their proven ruggedness, but of course the Vortex AMG is the "new thing" from Vortex, all American made and Vortex warranty.

The Nightforce's 2.5-20 appeals to me in that it offers the greater range of magnification, is compact, etc. Has greater FOV, 11 yd to infinitite parallex and it a 3" shorter and a smidge ligher.

They both weight about the same.

What do you intend to do with the rifle?
AQ planned for years and sent their A team to carry out the attacks, and on Flight 93 they were thwarted by a pick-up team made up of United Frequent Fliers. Many people look at 9/11 and wonder how we can stop an enemy like that. I look at FL93 and wonder, "How can we lose?". -- FromMyColdDeadHand

What did you expect? Instant gratification? You said you ordered both of them. Give us a report when you get them.

    How is that ethical?

Your post doesn’t give anything worth responding to. Anyone here can google specs of a rifle scope so that’s just wasted space. Also, if they have to look up the specs, chances are that means they don’t know anything about the scopes and have no personal experience with them, so they’re not going to have much of value to add. You haven’t told anyone about the use aside from that it’s going on an AR-10, but that still leaves a lot to be desired. Give some better details, ask some specific questions, and spend some time doing a thorough search on here instead of bumping the thread the same day.

Ya sorry. Poor choice of words. Allow me to clarify now that I'm at a keyboard. What I mean is, if he will have both units in-hand he will be able to compare them side-by-side, evaluate weight, build quality, size, clarity of glass, eye relief, reticles, knobs/controls, etc. etc.

I do not mean mount them on the rifle, shoot them, bang them around and what not. Then, perhaps, after his table-top evaluation (and whatever feedback he gets from users) he can make a decision.

All of this subject to his respective return policies of course! Good luck OP.
