    No comment on the iron sight rip off. But I am running a 1-6 LPVO at 1.5 height and was not happy with the acquisition speed for CQB. I have used Aimpoint and EoTech RDS, in addition to the Elcan Specter. After reading Jeff Gurwitch articles I decided to try the offset MRDS concept. I really like it and for around $230 total for the offset mount and sight, I am happy. Fogging is not much of an issue here as long as the rifle is kept ambient temp.
