Hey guys just a quick followup:

The picture seen is a first draft, and I dont even have the proper set up (micrometer and rifle) on hand due to moving and renovating. I definitely need to fix a few dimensions. The first version to get made will be thinner than seen to fit nicely inbetween the scope rings. I also need to consider what kind of turrets are out there, and if a 12 o clock mounting position or slightly off set is better.

The first immediate issue I see is getting the trigonometry right (i'll take any help here), so that I can make these non adjustable and still get reasonable POA/POI at 25M+. If I could hit a 1/3 ipsc at 50 ill call it acceptable. at 100 I'd be more than pleased. These should have a pretty long sight radius and should shoot better than a pistol.

You won't get POA/POI at 25M if your target is smaller than a pie pan. You won't be able to hit a 1/3 IPSC target at 50 unless you are real lucky. If you hit one at 100 you better consider yourself extremely lucky and plan a trip to Vegas while you are hot. Speaking of pistols... Hold one about 5" from your eye and tell us what the sight picture looks like. I appreciate your effort but don't see any practical reason to support the project. I wouldn't put a whole lot of money in it unless it could be sold cheap enough to attract the mall ninja/paintball crowd. Print one and let us know how it goes.

--and as an aside are you using Solidworks or something else? Engineering student in a former life, still dabble with CAD occasionally and looking for something to replace Draftsight Free which they're killing at end of year.

Hey, I am using Fusion 360. I tried using some of the other free CADs out there, and they are for amatuers trying to live the 3d printing fable. Fusion is a proffesional app, with many featuers including event simulation, generative design, and machining. I personally only know how to do basic modeling and 3d printing, but theres room for growth. Fusion is also extremely competiative in that; students, hobbiest, and non profits can get free subscriptions. Currently I am using my email from community college and when that subscirption runs out I am just gonna use my Uni's email for another 3 years. #gaming

They would only be adjustable in windage (X plane). For elevation (Y plane) I would just be doing the math to get a estimated zero. Because most LPVO's are 30mm tubes mounted at 1.6"(?) above the bore, theres actually alot of constants to work off of.


To be clear; these are not meant for shooting tight groups, or to run the USMC qual. These are meant to be minute'o'man at GTFO ranges. In my own experience with the ACOG, and others pointing out that elcan and even KAC are working on similar designs lets me know there IS a market aside from "paintball".

Not "working on," implemented in Elcan's case, albeit right on scope body.

Canting the rifle will be hard to see through the sights to clear the turrets. Sights will go with the scope as you cant. When you use 45* sights, they have the same axis as the scope and come to your eye. Making the sights really tall to clear all different kinds of turrets will make checkweld non-existant. At the distances those sights will be used at it would be better to practice instinctive snap shooting. Go play paintball with a sightless marker and you will know what I mean. I played for several years with a pump and could hit barrels sticking out past bunkers.
