Gen 5 Glock slide stop question

    Hello all,

I was wondering what gives the gen 5 glock slide stops’ downward pressure. I understand the previous generations spring system and how it provided downward pressure with the spring pushing on the locking block pin. How does the spring in the gen 5 provide the downward pressure?

    Thanks

There is a captured coil spring in the slide stop/release lever. In the frame is a small recess that the front of the slide release fits, and this recess puts tension on the spring when the release is installed. Pressure is applied to the bottom of the coil spring which in turn imparts pressure on the slide release forcing it downward.

I circled in red the area I am referring to.

While spring failure was not a huge issue in the Glock pistols, the Gen 5 guns use coil springs for everything. The fact that they all work in a compression mode rather than extension and retraction, In theory, should even be less prone to failure than the previous designs.
