I have an HK94 that has never stumbled on anything I’ve fed it, from mildly corrosive Israeli surplus ammo almost 35 years ago to current anything I can get. Good luck figuring out yours.

I second JoshNC’s comments. Mp5K/SP89/SP5k was meant to run on NATO spec ammo. UMC is under pressured. Stick with MEN or similar NATO pressure ammo.
I love my SP5k. It runs well suppressed.
By luck and by melting my new Amex, I found and picked up a new HK94 from a now defunct big LGS in 1990. At the range, I was told by a LE HK certified trainer to use NATO specball, no jhp,no subsonic,no CCI Blazer for the life of the gun. I did just so for at least 800 rounds and after that found my 94 did work with some JHPs that were 115 and 124 gr but definitely nothing weak powered. Anything else (147 gr subsonice, etc ) would cause functioning issues.

I took it back to the range and shot 100 rds nato spec ammo flawless. BUT- I also tried some Sig 124 +P V crown and they will not chamber the first round from a mag. So, what hollow points are you guys running? I will shot cheap ammo for playing but I like to have a stock of quality ammo for other things. Have you found the HK's prefer any particular HP's?
Man, that's an awesome looking gun you picked up there OP! Congratulations!
Good night Chesty...wherever you are.
Win white box always ran well for me. I prob put 10,000 rounds of that through my fullauto Vector/Group UZI. It is dirty dirty stuff. It was like cleaning sand out of my UZI (when it rarely got cleaned) after shooting white box. But it ran fine. I stopped using it through my suppressors as I was worried the grainy debris would be hard on my baffles. RSR always has Fiocchi 115 and 124 for in stock, so I tend to just shoot that lately. It’s way cleaner than IMI and win white box in my experience. My MP5K-N and MP5-N are all German, built on SP89 and hk94 respectively, so I feed them better fodder. Especially my K-N, which has a factory K-N barrel installed by HK at their Georgia service center.

I've got close to 8k rounds through my MKE made MP5 and it even runs Tula steel and Blazer aluminum without issue. Zenith recommends 200 rounds of 124gr to break in, and that seems to work for most people. Initially I had some issues running JHP but after shooting a bit more ball tried again and found it would run 115, 124, and 147 JHP's (Gold Dots, HST's, Ranger T, you name it). Being a K, it might be more ammo sensitive though.

Remington/UMC plinking ammo is hands down the worst factory ammo (not counting steel-cased) I've shot over the years and also among the weakest. It's consistent in that, except that I also wouldn't assume there might not be a double or squib load in any given box. Second would be Win white box FMJ - the JHPs have been better for me, but at that price, there are better, cheaper range loads.
Any of the 9mm NATO loads sold by various companies will be on the "hotter" end. Any domestic 115 or 124/127 +p is probably close enough.
