While we're spitballing, my personal dream pair of 1911's... okay, two pairs, 6" for nightstand or Open Carry and 5" for CCW.
    >Threaded barrels, less for suppressors than for extra barrel length
    >Suppressor-height sights mounted to BUIS an Aimpoint Nano/other micro red-dot
    >Both with ambi mag catches to use "standard" magazines (the traditional Achilles heel of the portsider 1911)
    >Safety flipped to opposite side from slide-stop, since I use either support hand or index finger to release slide
    >Stainless steel frames/slides, Inconel springs
    >Each to have two separate barrels, one for full-power 10mm and the other .45 Super/.45ACP
    >Arched MSH's with lanyard loops on both, and LL's on all mags

Larry Vickers once said something like, “if you treat your guns like you treat your lawnmower, 1911’s aren’t for you.” If you like to tinker and are somewhat mechanically inclined have at it.

My first gun was 1911. Then my uncle got me into Bullseye when I was young. I’ll tell you, an accurized and tunes 1911 is amazing. But they are like heroine. I tried to run my carry gun for IDPA latter on and couldn’t get it to run reliably with different ammo and loads. Invested a bunch of time and money in tools, books, and videos. PITA!

Bought an M&P 45 full size with a thumb safety. Then put an Apex FSS trigger. I think it’s 90% as good as an off the shelf 1911 from an accuracy and ergonomics standpoint and 10 x more reliable with all types of ammo. Haven’t really shot my 1911s in a long time.

I see. I recently sold one of those to a family member. (M&P .45 full size 2.0) Great pistol. Will probably end up buying it back eventually.

Haven't read the whole thread. I've owned several 1911s, from Kimber through full custom. I sold them all and got enough to buy a nice used car.

I'll stick to Glocks. They do the same thing, without the drama.

    Not one bit!
I bought a Colt Gov't model .45 in 1988. Carried it virtually everyday for 25 years. I've fired thousands of rounds through it, and to this day I cannot recall having a malfunction. ( I guess I was lucky). Made the jump to M&P 9mm's a few years ago & now usually pack a 2.0 Compact 9mm with a PMM compensator, Trijicon RMR RDS & an Apex trigger kit. On occasion, I'll carry my DW Guardian in 38 Super but my other 1911's only see range time. They are a classic handguns that ALL others are judged by. It may have low capacity but all four of mine are as dependable as any quality striker fired weapon.

So, they generally aren't easier to shoot more accurately than other pistols?

I heard Ken Hackathorn say ‘if you think about guns the same way you think about lawn mowers get a Glock.’

I dunno....I have at times treated my Kimber like my Glock (except I kept it oiled at least twice a week) and its never had a problem except when it had a FLGR

A Dan Wesson Valor - with the exception of lousy Heinie Night sights - has everything I want for a reasonable price. It runs, and has a STELLAR trigger. For me, the best fightin handgun on the planet. You can spend more but no improvement in function. Yes it is heavy, so my next DW will be alloy.
