It almost looked like a shot-for-shot homage, but I still am going to wait in line to see it. Too much of my childhood wrapped up in that. Footage looks pretty good and Cruise has been making good movies.

Please pay Kelly McGuiniss to not be in it.

Notice the F14 in the last clip of the trailer...

Looks like they put him in the back seat for this one to get real air footage. Interesting why some of the shots have him in a full pressure suit.

Indeed. I would have thought the Navy could have rigged up a 2 stick super hornet but maybe the USN is done with cool promos.

I think that they are going to debut some kind of 'Foxfire' type drone-manned AC stuff, and that is part of it- my guess. Also with the F14 in the end, I'd say that someone hacks the system and Maverick saves the day in an old F14 that they have laying around. Just a guess.

What is the enemy in this film? It honestly feels like aliens. I mean, what if we have a film about Tom Cruise battling aliens in an F18?

I'm wondering...they showed that scene of Ed Harris questioning Maverick as to why he's only a captain after 30+ years. And, according to IMDb, Iceman is only a commander... also, after more than 30 years. I'm thinking we're going to find that that sometime between the first movie and this one, both Maverick and Iceman got into some kind of trouble and either got denied promotions or demoted.

Given how movie tropes go, they probably went into restricted airspace to help rescue American forces after they were ordered to return to base and let the troops die.

I was appalled at the lack of any kind of research they did about the "three kills, more than anyone in the last 40 years."

Both Capt Thomas Dietz, USAF and 1Lt Robert Hehemann, USAF scored 3 kills apiece in Desert Storm.

    Never mind...Hollywood...

Lots of officers are Captain/Colonel after 30 years. They then retire.
