    Midweight 16-inch Barrels

Looking for recommendations on better 16 inch barrels that meet the following:
    - .223 Wylde or 5.56 NATO chamber
    - Midweight profile
    - Midlength gas system
    - Barrel material is chrome-moly or stainless; no chrome lining
    - Extension is hardened or nitrided; no nickel-teflon or similar coatings
    - Budget is $200-$300

Below are some of the barrels that I found, in no particular order:

    Bison Armory Recon or SPR

I have that barrel, and I am very happy with it. I also have the next barrel I'm going to suggest you look at. Here is a second option from Black River Tactical in a more mid-weight profile:

If I were in the market for a barrel like that, I'd give Clint a try at BRT.

The MPR barrel profile is what I had in mind. It also comes in at a reasonable weight of ~31 oz. Many barrels that I found were in the range of 35 to 40 oz.

I contacted Clint about the MPR barrel. He answered my questions about the nickel-boron (NiB) coating on the receiver extension and the benefits of using it. He also mentioned that the receiver extension is heat-treated prior to coating, where as I thought the coating might be a substitute for the heat treatment process.
