    "Blade Runner 2"?

    http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...lade-runner-2/

Hope this one actually goes through. The first one is a cult favorite and has been called a "sci-fi masterpiece", or just boring (depending on your point of view). It posed the question "what does it mean to be human?", and Rutger Hauer did a first-rate job as the Replicant Roy Batty. And then there are the endless debates over whether Deckard was really a Replicant or not.

I saw it in the theatre in 1982, but didn't really appreciate it until years later.

Agreed, some damn fine trade craft there.

One of the all time greats for sure and might just be the single greatest science fiction film to date.

They will totally blow it if they attempt a remake/sequal/prequal/whatever.

The soundtrack/score by Vangelis really put this film over the top . . . just outstanding music.

Very much my thoughts that if they try to do anything to follow it the result will fall short since the fans hold Blade Runner in such high regard for it is very much a beautiful movie, wonderful characters, and truly top notch performances. And Rutger Hauer performance I and lines has gone down as one of the greatest in sci fi, if not movie history. I could go on, but think I might drag out my DVD, have the Final Cut with all of the cuts and have watched everyone of them, lol, including with commentary because I am a nerd.

Here is a great interview of Rutger Hauer on Blade Runner where he talks about the fans keeping the film alive entitled "30 years ago I saw the future" . . .

I wonder if it's going to be postcyberpunk instead of straight cyberpunk.

Also: I fear Sir Ridley Scott may be dead before Blade Runner 2 gets made. Man has a lot of irons in the fire, right now: Adaptations of The Forever War, Brave New World and Wool. Plus a sequel to Prometheus. Plus this. And Exodus: Gods and Kings. And God knows what else.

I kind of hope not, he really put the nail in the Alien films coffin with Prometheus.

Lots of potential to really screw this one up.

I read the interview with Scott that it's going to happen. I have very conflicting feelings. Try to do a sequel to the greatest sci fi movie of all time, and an American classic, is a very risk proposition. We can count on one hand where that's been done successfully (God Father, Aliens, etc) and they still fu&%ed it up by trying to push into more (God Father III, 2010, etc). Sure, if Scott can reproduce the magic that is Blade Runner, great. I would make my decade. But, the likleyhood of that are so low, and the expectation so high, I don't see it being worth messing with it.

B.R. is my all time favorite movie irrespective of genre.

Some treat it like it's a religion.

    It isn't.

It IS a movie and only a movie.

Some of us give movies far more credence than they deserve.

I'd love to see a sequel.

If they do a crappy job of it, so what?

    It's only a movie, not a schism.

That's your opinion. For some, movies can have a great deal of meaning to them, like a great work of literature, or music, etc. Like Beethoven's 9th, or the roof of the Sistine chapel, they are works of art onto themselves, and can have deep meaning and effects on people and culture. For those things in your life you hold in value, the "It's only a..." would be offensive.

The 1911 only a handgun, the 1969 fastback Mustang only a car, The Bible, only a book, and so forth. Essentially true.
