Another Colt Cm thread for the love .....

So the recent chatter about the 6.5 barrels getting shot out quickly has me wondering. With my LMT, it’s easy, just buy another LMT barrel. But with Colt, what barrel do you buy as replacement? Is it proprietary?

Lastly, what is expected barrel life for 6.5? I dump mags through both of mine and will likely have to replace sooner than I care to.

    Your feedback is appreciated.

PB, Barrel life is based on a few things as you mentioned, tempo is one. "life" will depend on desired accuracy and with a semi the gas port erosion. I've heard of some guys getting upwards or slightly more than of 3k, based on your treatment, I would expect 2-2.5k.

Yea, that’s what I was reading. I figure by rotating my guns and taking several each range session, I might get a couple years.

I often think how the military must plow through barrels and guns. Shooting the piss out of them 5-7 days a week.
I bet they have piles of smoked up barrels.

I've seen some folks go through barrels alright! Some refer to them as consumables, almost like a dang magazine. Heavy match shooters order them like their meds.(if they're old) Of course the mil guys can simply walk over to the truck.

Maybe in rare combat situations, but guns mags and ammo spend the large majority of their lives in a locked arms room, coming out for quals, range days, etc.

Line units aren't shooting the piss out of anything 5-7 days a week.

Most Soldiers, including Infantryman don’t shoot that much.

    This^^^

Unless they are working up for a deployment they likely only fire a few hundred live rounds a year at most.

Yea, I’ve read too much SOF stuff, where they do shoot. Gotta a point.
