How long are fingerprint cards good for?

I have a BCM lower I want to SBR. My understanding is that once I get the cover letter from the eFile I have to mail the man two FBI finger print cards. Since I have to take time off and go get them done, I was wondering if it’s worth getting a few extra ones and having them just in case I want to SBR something else or get a can without using the Silencer Shop kiosk. If I do, how long can they sit before they are no longer good? I assume they will have a date on them.

    Thanks gents!

There’s actually nothing in the regulations that give an expiration. There is for pics (12 months), and there was for CLEO signature when it was required.

Best advice I can give you is spend $7 on an inkless fingerprint pad, order free FD-258LE cards from the ATF, and roll a bunch at home. Date them when it’s time to submit. Don’t waste the time and money to “go get them done”.

Not sure if you can get them done without a date or not, if you’re set on going wherever you normally go.

You can roll your own prints too.

FWIW I made my own Passport style photos too. Style is the important word in that phrase. You don't have to have actual passport photos taken for the ATF. Just make sure it meets Passport Photo regs and you're good to go with a Walmart print for $0.46 that will give you four photos to cut out. Then send online whenever you need more. Much cheaper and easier than the normal passport photo process.

That being said I'm all signed up on SilencerShop now so I just click a few buttons and it's all done electronically for me now.

i've been told a few times that rolled prints are far more likely to be rejected than digital prints. if rejected, it could mean a much longer wait to get final ATF approval.

Told by who? The internet? Local gun shops? Gun trust lawyers?

I can tell you my DIY prints are way more clear than the one my local dealer prints out. I’m not sure his are even readable, but none from either source have ever been rejected.

I’m to the point I doubt they actually run the prints. I think they just input the info off the card and do a check.
