Gen 1 had the Sig rail while the Gen 2 has a pic rail for mounting underneath barrel attachments.

There are really 'three' generations. SP 2009 with weird proprietary rail, SP 2022 with the SIG rounded pic rail, then the latest with a true Pic rail.
You can also still find SP 2022s with the internal extractor on a new gun.
Probably the best OTB trigger on any DA/SA under $700.
