This is not Brockway’s first run in with police. He pleaded guilty to an assault with a weapon charge that occurred in 2011.

I noticed someone said he was released, he was OR'ed, he dang near killed the kid and he was OR'ed. The judge should be removed from the bench.

I suffered bilateral temporal fractures in an accident - it permanently impacted my balance with my eyes closed or even in complete darkness. I hope this young man is affected as much.

I had to 'fly' off a roof onto a concrete driveway to fracture mine, so I'm sure the guy was just kidding around with the kid. Bullshit. He needs to be in jail.
Want to see some catch and release bullshit that will really piss you off? I give you this...

No shit.. I was at Pearl Harbor at 7am one morning and at 8am the Naval station raised the flag while playing either reveille or the national anthem (I don't recall which) my entire family faced it and showed respect. Next to us were a bunch of dudes wearing Vietnam Vet jackets bullshitting and drinking coffee... not one took off his super cool vet hat and faced the flag.. not a single one of them. My 10 y/o cub scout son was all set to kick some ass..LOL..

I cannot and will not try to convince people of where they came from, what they have, and moreover what they have to lose.

It doesn’t change their minds and it doesn’t make me feel any better.

Go ahead. Piss on the American flag. Shit on it for all I care. Use it as a doormat.

But you’re going to miss this. You’re going to want it back.

But by then all you will have are memories.

The world is full of mentally ill people - some worse than others. If I was standing next to the 13 year old, I might have got his attention, point to his hat and gestured for him to remove it, showing him how I was doing it with my cowboy hat. It was an opportunity for a friendly teaching moment for the young man, not a beat down.

Wow. Seriously? What if somebody did that to your kid because he failed to do the expected patriotic actions at a sporting event?

I'm also more willing to bet that kid deliberately keeps his hat on for the rest of his life just to piss off people who get spun up by it. Hate to see what you'd advocate for a 13 year old kid who was actually burning the flag.

Your kid should have spoke up and schooled them.

And THANK YOU. A lot of kids, and sadly even some adults, have never been taught or learned some of this shit and if you just show them half will actually appreciate it. When I was a kid I was thinking about lots of other stuff and would sometimes forget, some old timer would remind me and I'd be like "Oh crap, thanks."

If we can't fix the easy shit like a grown up adult then how are we ever gonna fix the hard stuff where we truly are never gonna agree?

When a grown ass man feels the need to ‘dominate’ a 13 year old that is not an imminent threat- its clear there are psycological issues that need work before release to the public.

I’m just talking shit. The real irony is that I’m the last person of all I served with to give a shit about stolen valor or stuff like this. I fought for that kids right to not have to do anything while the national anthem is played.

The guy ****ed up and was probably not looking to seriously hurt the kid. I read that the kid cursed him out when he said something to him.

I just think it’s funny that he had to learn the hard way that when you run your mouth you could get your skull fractured and most folks take their hat off for the anthem.

From the story I would ass-u-me mental health issues?

At some point we have to admit, as a society that some folks are just not going to ever be able to live among people without creating a risk to other members of society - either because they are untreatable, won't stay on their meds, or willingly abuse drugs (alcohol is a drug).

Habitual drunk drivers as well as many of the homeless fit in this category.

Sadly, numerous members of this forum probably believe that this guy should possess firearms, because 'freedom is scary,' you know.

Every Communist must grasp the truth. Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun. Our principle is that the Party commands the gun, and the gun must never be allowed to command the Party Mao Zedong, 6 November, 1938 - speech to the Communist Patry of China's sixth Central Committee
