You might get on one of the cartridge company websites and use their ballistic calculators to get a better idea of bullet trajectory.

If you want to get ocd/nerdy some versions of Strelok have a 2 moa dot reticle so you get drawing showing modifiable holdovers on various targets in addition to a ballistic table.

I generally use a 50 yard zero for my rifles.

50/200 yard zero for RDS and scopes with BDC recticles like the JM-1, 100 yard zero with scopes that I'm gonna dial on. Depending on your optics one zero may or may not work for you but a 100 yard zero is not likely to work with capped turrets and a BDC.

I assume that anyone would zero a BDC optic at the designated range it was designed for...

What are the criteria for the MPBR? Is it just a general desire to hit a certain diameter target and how far away can that be achieved without adjusting point of aim?

    Or is there something different?

I’ve been intrigued by the 36 yard zero since seeing this video. Starts talking about it at 3:45

100 yards for rifles. Bolt guns and semiautos. 25 yards for pistols. Just way easier to know I can check zero and go with the same process for all. Whatever range works best for you is up to you but having consistant holds on all your guns from 0-100 makes sense. Bad guy in the house is a bad time to wonder "do I aim for the face or top of the head."
