Federal does not anneal their case heads as do virtually all other manufacturers and therefore you get primer pocket expansion. Nothing wrong with FC ammo, but I only reload it one time, and then scrap it. I have reloaded some Frontier from one lit with no problems, but I'll watch for loose primer pockets.
I'm not familiar with annealing the case head.

My thoughts are annealing it would make it softer and more prone to head separation and primer pocket expansion.

    Can you expand on this?

Did these issues ever get narrowed down to a particular loading or Lot #? Is it just 5.56 loads having issues?

You would never anneal the case head. Some FC brass simply has a thinner web/less "meat" in the base of the case.

    That was my point.

I had one primer pushed out and one blown in a class last weekend. Both cases swelled and stuck in a BCM chamber. Bullets were still in the case.

Sorry, forgot to post that. .223. I can't give a lot or production date because I dumped the ammo in cans for fast reloading and trashed the boxes. They were recent purchases though.

That's discouraging. You would think they could get this right.
