Correct Sling set up for Block 1 M4?

Stupidly I removed the side sling attachment on my 6920, and not exactly gently either. So apparently it’s a $40 part...

What’s a period correct way to attach a sling to my colt?

Like a rail mounted attachment or something?

    Paracord through the handguard holes?

Can I just use the factory sling that my carbine came with?

    Thanks.

Many dudes used rail mounted doodads. Some used heavy zip ties to the handguard or delta ring. I remember grenade pins being used on some guns, but can’t remember how exactly.

Concerning rail mounted doodads, How about something like this?

    Looks old school enough...

Mounted next to the delta ring on the left side. Would suit me better than the stock colt sling attachments.

I’m sure its plenty awesome. Most guys rocking block 1s back when they were the cool guy gun didn’t have QD’s yet. Think more ghetto fabulous.

I did some thinking about the grenade pin thing and realized that circa 2005, I was one of the people using one. I had a rail mounted eyelet, MI, I think, that I attached it to. I think it was made for MP5 type slings. I just fished it out of a parts box. The eyelet is kinda smashed and the inside diameter is worn to shit. The frag pin is ovoid.

I think after that I used a rail mounted sling slot.

I used a CAR stock with 550 wound around it for the rear mounting point.

Thanks for helping me go back in time. I miss that rifle. Still have my bump cards with its SN.

    Very cool info thanks!

I’ve always found the carbines from that time to have that classic M4 “look”.

Will just jerry-rig up some sling loops with paracord.

Here is an idea for you. This is one of my Block I M4s with a Vickers Combat Applications 2 Point Sling. Note the Colt front sling swivel.

^Nice Renegade! Makes me regret removing mine.

I think I will just use one of those basic issued m4 slings:

put 2 heavy duty zip-ties through the RAS rail holes and use an HK style hook through those for the front.

And maybe use one of these for the back:

or instead of the m4 sling, this padded m-60 sling instead.

I ended up just modifying an m4 sling to include my preferred 2 points of quick detach. I think those materials are available at the time.

The two small zip ties through the handguard is kinda hard to see.

Edit: I think the zip ties will melt. Gonna put the colt sling mount back on.

There was no sling in the original SOPMOD M4 Kit because the users could not agree on one. So slings and attachments were all over the place. And I don't think (or remember) one with the later Block 2 either...to each his own...
