I guess you don't remember the hell that was the fifteen layers of canon in pre-mouse Star Wars, and the massive fustercluck that was canon when the prequels were coming out. At least under Disney, all canon is unified, and you don't have to worry about the next movie running over your favorite bit of canon from a book, or a book trampling a video game, &c.
