I am looking to do a 14.5" barrel. I do not want a lightweight profile.
All things being equal except for the profile, which do you think is the best balance of stiffness vs weight vs heating up?

Look at the Black River Tactical 14.5" barrel. I have the 14" version and it is a good balance of accuracy, balance, and weight.
Off to a great start I see. Thanks internet.
The taper profile (don’t care about fluted) seems to be my favorite profile. The design maximizes stiffness and weight I think.
AQ planned for years and sent their A team to carry out the attacks, and on Flight 93 they were thwarted by a pick-up team made up of United Frequent Fliers. Many people look at 9/11 and wonder how we can stop an enemy like that. I look at FL93 and wonder, "How can we lose?". -- FromMyColdDeadHand
In my opinion, the SOCOM profile is an unnecessary compromise unless you plan on mounting a grenade launcher.
A taper from chamber to muzzle seems the most logical design to me and that profile with a .750" gas block would be plenty stiff without unnecessary weight.
Fluting slightly reduces barrel weight without affecting stiffness and should shed heat better. IMHO the cost outweighs any benefits.

Our BRT 14.5 OPTIMUM MPC is a mid-weight tapered profile that is very nicely balanced.
Black River Tactical
BRT OPTIMUM Hammer Forged Chrome Lined Barrels - 11.5", 12.5", 14.5", 16"
BRT EZTUNE Preset Gas Tubes - PISTOL, CAR, MID, RIFLE
BRT Bolt Carrier Groups M4A1, M16 CHROME
BRT Covert Comps 5.56, 6X, 7.62
If I was looking for a non light weight I would give a serious consideration to this one.
BCM Standard 14.5" Mid Length (ENHANCED MEDIUM WEIGHT - FLUTED) Barrel, Stripped

I would go with BRT personally. Gassed right and will be more accurate than a standard chrome lined barrel from BCM.
I am guessing accuracy is somewhat important if you want SPR/recon type rifle.
Another good option would be centurion arms or compass lake Douglas recon barrel. You will pay soonest 2x as much as the BRT but they are really good barrels
I can highly recommend the Centurion 14.5" for accuracy.
