If a company is in danger of being penalized because they can't meet demand that was set in a contract, I can see why they would shut down a sector of sales in order to meet a deadline. I'm not blaming Colt in the least for this. I have this feeling they'll be back on the market before the 2020 Election Craze and making absurd profits like every manufacturer will.

Maybe $2499 MSRP on the LE6920, $2999 on the SOCOM?

Could be. In a world where a Pmag could go for $75, anything is possible.

I'll bet a Pmag on it. (For me, that's HUGE, I don't even do penny-ante poker.)

    From the article:

"On the other hand, our warfighters and law enforcement personnel continue to demand Colt rifles and we are fortunate enough to have been awarded significant military and law enforcement contracts."

I would assume this to mean that they are building and maintaining an inventory of ARs. How much less profitable and more complicated is it to keep some available for civilian sales?

Two words: "Penalty Clause." If they can crank out enough to meet the contract requirements before deadline then they can use the overrun parts for civvy rifles, but if they blow deadline the PC's would eat up any profit to be had. If those contracts are so demanding that they're running three shifts to fulfill 'em it simply makes no sense for them to get buttraped on Breach of Contract just to stroke our egos. Had I been the guy writing this press release, I would have been careful to stress "We'll see what the market wants as soon as we fulfill our contractual obligations, and take action on commercial production accordingly."

    Cool

COLTS DECISION TO SUSPEND AR-15 PRODUCTION FOR THE PUBLIC IS ALL ABOUT BUSINESS

A more honest media view of Colt's decision to suspend AR production although it does contain some of the usual LGS nonsense. Most media is trying to portray it as a "going out of business" in ARs deal due to anti-gun pressure from morons like Beto etc.

The majority of consumers buying ARs want something cheap that looks cool. Want to sell an AR put a cheesy rollmark on it and mount some gun show trash to it. Colt builds plain functional weapons it makes more sense for them to sell to military and law enforcement than to try and take market share from the PSA/Anderson/Yeet cannon crowd. Why should Colt compete in a race to the bottom? I highly doubt this is some ethical posturing or political move. Its just money.
