Cutting sugar for 24 hours & competing with your spouse when it comes to food!

C4IGrant knows how much of a sweet tooth I have. He also knows I want to lose 10 pounds. So he has challenged me to cut sugar for just 24 hours. That's it. He would join me (he knows I am competitive), but I have yet to agree--oh, sugar really is as addictive as crack (not that I know anything about taking crack.)

But what about my cinnabon creamer with my coffee each morning with my God time? Hate coffee without creamer.
How about the 2-3 Atomic Fire Balls I eat everyday with 16 ounces of water with each (yes, they are hot to me but get me drinking lots of water).
    And my coconut bai?
And my Lavender Martini?? (C4IGrant makes a plethora of amazing martinis)

Ugh....anyone else do fun competitions with their spousal units with little things like food intake? And anyone live without sugar every once in awhile?

Two years ago wife had surgery and could not tolerate sugar anymore. I joined her then and now sugar makes us both sick if we eat more than a small amount! One of the hardest addictions I’ve ever broke.

I used to put 6 spoons of sugar in my coffee and I just quit, It was miserable for about a week and then I started buying good coffee that had naturally sweet flavors. I cut out excess alcohol, ice cream (was daily now once in a while), french fries (almost daily) and again for about a week it was miserable, but now fine. Don't try cold turkey on everything, just try cutting 1 thing. I lost 15 pounds and kept it off. When I feel like ice cream I eat it or a donut or anything sweet I have it knowing it cannot be daily or all the time.

Good luck, ma'am. I remember the two times I tried to kick my caffeine habit... not fun for me, and even less so for everyone around me. Double-Plus Ungood for the ambitious schmuck in the office plotting against the young lady I was tasked with protecting...

Alcohol and sugar. Two things you don't need.

But, f*ck I love them both.

I stopped sugar in my coffee cold turkey the day I decided to lose weight in February. I just use a shot of half/half and rock on. No more candy or sodas either. We don't even have a bag of sugar in our house anymore. Guests just have to deal with it. It was way easier than I thought it was going to be. As for "competition", my spouse and I decided to lose weight together. We don't really compete, we just support each other and provide a little guilt when appropriate. I'm down 60lbs, and she's down 40 lbs.

Sounds like one day off from sugar here and there is just making my life in the long run more difficult. A week is a better way to go. But, geez, even my non-fat, non-flavored boring greek yogurt has 6 grams of sugar in it! So really, it's just about cutting the excess and the little you get in other foods will be a proper amount...(25 grams for women, 36 for men)

Alcohol IS sugar. Ain't chemistry beautiful?

Native Americans called refined white sugar "white man's poison." It's no bueno, but my God, it's so good.....

One other thing I've noticed... well, maybe this is just me but I've noticed that I can get away with sugar/carbs etc. more earlier in the day--a keto-based diet with mostly proteins and/or salads as late-afternoon-to-evening chow has taken 20 pounds off me just since May, and it's not even that strict with me sneaking in the odd pizza, pasta, sandwich or soda here and there and still starting my morning with a handful of M&Ms.

I too have a goal, to shave off an even 40lbs--back to 200 or less--before my 40th birthday next June. Good luck, OP, and hang in there.

24 whole hours, how will you survive?!

Besides wanting to drop a few lbs, how's your blood sugar and A1C levels?

I don't add sugar to anything, read labels for added sugar, drink a diet ice tea and such to keep sugar to a minimum and pick my spots to enjoy some sugar, like quality dark chocolate after dinner, a homemade slice or 6 of pie, etc.

Added sugar is a good place to reduce empty cals if one if trying to lose some weight.
