    Very interesting developments. I was with a friend shooting a variety of .300BO through s 16” AR a couple of weeks ago (125-220gr). At 75 yards the 150 gr Bullets seemed to be slamming the steel much harder. The velocity on the handload 150gr was only about 1950fps as measured with a LabRadar. Another 300fps with the HAMR would be great for deer. I would like to see what it does with the lighter Bullets in soft point and TSX for defense. The 150 would be devastating for defense but wonder if too much compared to a 125 gr SP in say a suburban setting. In a rural setting I would think the 159gr would be a great all around load.

    I have a Colt Commando, Mod 6933, that I may build an upper for if I get a Bolt Gun in the 300 H'R.

    Has anyone made the leap to the 300 HAM'R? Seems like a good hunting round out of a standard AR.

    Today, I'd do a 30HRT (30 Herrett) over this. For hunting, I think it's a solid choice if you aren't invested in something similar already and no, I don't mean 300BO.

    Unless I've missed it somewhere no one makes cases or loads factory ammo for the 30HRT and in the real world of hunting no game animal shot with either the 300 HAM'R or 30HRT using a similar bullet will know the difference.

    Yes, it is an easy to form wildcat and no factory ammunition that I am aware of. Using the 6.8SPC case gives it some advantages over similar 5.56 based wildcats and factory offerings. Whether the the performance difference matters really depends on the individual using it and what they are trying to achieve.

    I own both a 300BO and 7.62x40WT so, I'm probably not the average person looking at the 300 HAM'R. The .30-6.8SPC wildcats are plentiful with some easier to make than others. For me, the 30HRT style is super easy to make, costs ME less and, gives me a lot of options I don't have in MY 5.56 case calibers.

    If I were to start all over not owning my current rifles, the 300 HAM'R would be a solid choice.

    Seems like the rim would be a issue in an AR. I also like the fact a standard AR bolt can be use with the .300 HAM'R unlike 6.8 SPC, 6.5G, etc.

    Yes, with 6.8SPC you really need to have a good bolt as it is higher pressure and a bit thinner than most 5.56/.223 options. That being said, so far I haven't had any bolt failures with my 6.8's. The standard 6.8 magazines are a bit finicky but, my Six-8 mags work really well and address the legacy issue of of 5.56 derivative mags. At some point, I will probably take my LWRC Six-8 and build a .30-6.8SPC upper for it, with the 30HRT being the most likely candidate but there a couple others with a slightly better chamber and barrel profile for supersonic hunting bullets.

    If I was BR shooting, I'd try the .30HRT or a .30 Grendel. I think they probably have better potential accuracy than the .30/223s just because the shoulders are bigger and headspace more positively.

    However, there is nothing keeping a .30/223 wildcat from shooting <1 MOA, which is more than plenty for their role as a <=300 yard big game carbine.

    We use 6.8 brass not 30-30 brass. The 6.8 brass will handle 58000psi easy in an AR so 110s to 2800 or 130gr MK319 bullets are over 2600 out of a 16" but really wake up in the 18", those guys are pushing the 125gr Cavity back to nearly 2800.
    As for making brass, you trim the case back a little, form with 30 Herrett dies load and shoot. We don't have to use modified 5.56 mags or Blackout mags just 6.8 mags. It will shoot 149gr fmjs around 2450-2500 and the 155 Amax around 2400 out of a 16" barrel.
