    Colt LE6944 extractor support

I read on patent 7,938,055 that a supporting pin was a part of the design of the Colt one piece upper receiver, at first. That pin is pressed into the barrel extension, to support the extractor in case of cartridge failure.

Did they put it on the production LE6944, or did they choose to do without it?

My LE6940 does not have the extractor support pin, but my rifle is an early model (barrel date 05/09).

I have an LE6944 that I bought in late 2017. It does not have an extractor support pin.

The extractor locking pin is to prevent extractor float during extraction / ejection on the COLT's op rod platform. There were a number of DI models that made it to the commercial market with the locking pin as is typical of COLT building guns with parts on hand.

    Thanks for your replies.

Do you know if such an extension is commercially available?

I think Caracal uses such an extension on short stroke external piston models.

I believe Chris Bartocci did a deep dive on the 814 which showed it was included just like it being standard on the 816.

Sure... the first one will cost $50,000 and remaining 999 will be free...

Seriously, there' no chance you'll find a COLT barrel extension.

ETA: Keep in mind that the barrel extension on the COLT 694X carbines only works with their MRP upper.
