Uhhh....that ship sailed a long time ago. Remember the ongoing egg debacle over the last 50 years or so? Eggs good. Eggs bad. Eggs good. OK, bad again.

The dudes pushing the plant-based diets...yeah. Not like THEY have an agenda either.

To me it's not that complicated (excepting special-case health issues that impact your diet): eat a balanced diet...including meat. I like the Mediterranean diet which allows for red meat but you keep it balanced with other protein sources including fish/poultry. There is plenty of 'scientific' evidence backing that diet, in fact it's one of the best-supported general diets out there.

I haven't lost all faith in nutrition science, but a lot more skeptical these days when somebody announces some allegedly radical new finding that suggests the common stuff most people have been eating for the last 5000 years must be bad for you.
To give them some credit, that's what most recommend not outside the fringes. Two, the misinformation on nutritional science is mostly a function of the media and or, wanna be experts/pub med ninjas who think they have it all figured out, and confuse the hell out of people.

There's plenty of blame to go around on all that as to confusion over the science vs the pseudo science nonsense.

If you want to eat for longevity/health/weight loss, focus on Mediterranean style diet

If you wanna eat for adding muscle mass and such, Mediterranean style diet with additional protein.

That's literally all there is too it in the big picture of things.

Human beings are omnivores. You can't escape this. Meat is on nature's menu for us. De-natured meat is the problem. Feed lots pump corn down cattle to fatten them up. Corn is not what cattle are adapted to eating so they produce massive amounts of omega 6 fats instead of their natural omega 3 fats. We eat the imbalanced cattle and it makes is ill over time. We should try to eat free range beef if possible which are mostly not fed corn. Free range cattle are as healthy as eating fish.

But they try so hard. I cover that topic in depth, as well as other vegan pseudo science mythology here:

Just let those people go. You can't reach them. They may have very different reasons for their behavior than they state in public.

    Little Rant:

Humans originated 2 million years ago. How do I know? This is the date man learned to control fire. It also marks the date of the origin of Homo erectus, the first human. Humans came about because they used fire to scare off big animals, hunt other animals (at night when it was safe) and TO COOK FOOD making it more digestible and safer to eat. Fire, hunting, and cooking are what made us.

Sounds like a good reason to visit France, St Martin, or St Bart's more often.

    Merci
