Eating a clean balanced diet is what I've tried to follow. I stay away from processed sugars and starches and watch overall carb intake. Other than that I definitely eat my share of lean red meat. Actually most of my red meat consumption is wild game mainly venison and waterfowl.

Hi Mack. Sorry to reply here. I can’t post in general regarding your SF, NM training post. Guess I can’t PM you either.

Try Gilmore Firearms. Nmcarry.com. He does a once a month class north of Albuquerque and travels some of the state also. Good basic instruction for beginners. Hope this helps. I’ll delete after you get this. Sorry to be off topic.

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group advocating a plant-based diet, on Wednesday filed a petition against the journal with the Federal Trade Commission. Dr. Frank Sacks, past chair of the American Heart Association’s nutrition committee, called the research “fatally flawed.”
Of course--can't have anyone contradicting the received 'scientific' consensus, because well, that would cause people to lose faith in the absolute reliability of nutrition science.

Uhhh....that ship sailed a long time ago. Remember the ongoing egg debacle over the last 50 years or so? Eggs good. Eggs bad. Eggs good. OK, bad again.

The dudes pushing the plant-based diets...yeah. Not like THEY have an agenda either.

To me it's not that complicated (excepting special-case health issues that impact your diet): eat a balanced diet...including meat. I like the Mediterranean diet which allows for red meat but you keep it balanced with other protein sources including fish/poultry. There is plenty of 'scientific' evidence backing that diet, in fact it's one of the best-supported general diets out there.

I haven't lost all faith in nutrition science, but a lot more skeptical these days when somebody announces some allegedly radical new finding that suggests the common stuff most people have been eating for the last 5000 years must be bad for you.

The additional problem is the media also jumps all over stuff and usually misrepresents the findings, adding much to the general confusion over the topic. Most of it, the truth tends to fall someplace in the middle and good/bad terminology more media/lay press getting people all worked up.

Know what one of the best thinks is about keto? I can drink a glass of Half & Half or heavy cream in the am just because. Then eat bacon.

Red meat is typically high in fat. Back over the past 20 years fat has been demonized as the cause of obesity, heart disease, etc. Obviously since red meat is high in fat, it is the cause of the obesity, heart disease, etc. (sarcasm)
