    Cheap thrills.
Once the ammo and rifles are no longer cheap, then yes, what's the point.
You're thinking of 7.62x54. 7.62x51 is essentially the NATO version of 308.

Yes. The 7.62 Russian. What the Mosin shoots. I should have checked better. The rim got to be real annoying.

It was just a different time. Now you have African countries and Latin Countries with more modern stuff.

    It ain’t coming back
You're not kidding. Like New G3 parts kits. Problem was, when they market was flooded with FAL kits for $60 almost nobody made a US receiver. Century pretty much started it off with those horrible Federal Arms receiver builds, but once there were quality receivers being made or imported, then the parts kits dried up or had already dried up.

I remember I bought an Group Industries Uzi receiver and a FN Uzi parts kit for about $120 all in. From there is was pretty much legos and you just put it together. But we were still under the specter of the 1994 AW ban and everyone was worried about compliance. Really brave people bought Steyr and SIG "replacement receivers" from CCF along with parts kits and built guns.

Then there were the HK P7s for $499 and the few German Lugers that came in with all those P-38s for something insane like $399. That was really our "man I wish I woulda bought one of those..." times just like our parents reminisced about being able to walk into a department store in the 60s and paying $20 for 1917 Enfields or 03 Springfields.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

-That Fleece UA hoodie you had for 13 years that was awesome? An errant cherry from a cigarette will put a hole in it. Wee... (Still gon wear it)

-Blockbuster will always trump the now super basic “Netflix and Chill”

-There is no English word for Hygge but there should be.

-Some of them tinfoil hat conspiracies are true. You just don’t know which ones. But people who don’t believe in the moon landing are jackasses.

-The best and worst thing you can ever say after an emphatic statement is “For Now”

-Hi Powers are where Browning wanted to go. But yet everyone stays hung up on 1911s. Both are good. But we were so close...

-You are the youngest right now that you will ever be again.

    Harsh Truths I've arrived at

Old Kentucky hillbilly. He was full of old wisdom and one liners. First time I heard “sometimes you roll the hard six” was in 1989. Never knew what it meant till I heard it in Battlestar Galactica years later. Or “it only hurts till the pain stops”.
