So yeah. It’s like moth to flame man. It’s aaaallll good.

I meant absolutely no dig at your comment- what you just said is exactly how I took it.
But this is a "harsh truths" thread and I wanted to rant about "those people" and irons.
I actually still believe in having BUIS on a serious gun, I'm just over how great people still think they are.
    They're not.

Just a few minutes spent on YouTube will drive the above truth, home.

I’ve come to accept it as an axiom.

    -762x51 is also pointless.

I always thought the whole point was cheap ammo in cheap rifles.
About ten years back a freind on a tight budget was shooting his Mosin at 500 yds.
    Cheap thrills.
Once the ammo and rifles are no longer cheap, then yes, what's the point.

It's not just 7.62x51. All ammo prices went up dramatically about 10 years ago. Even 9mm and 5.56 have doubled in the last 10 years. The days of high quality milsurp at 1000 rounds for 100 shipped are over.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

From what Ive read/heard & been told by industry people, Sandy Hook pretty much wiped out all cheap Mil surplus everywhere, both guns & ammo. Also- the Kenyan getting elected the first & second time speeded things up considerably too. And...we all thought Killary was getting elected and that too ate up the little remaining.

Yep. It wasn’t gonna last forever. Lots of Eastern block countries dumping AK74 parts, Latin countries dumping FALs, Germans dumping UZIs, and selling off so much ammo. The real heyday was juuust before 9/11. No Bush Barrel Ban, ammo was crazy cheap, and I mean lotsa places were dumping pistols. Walther P1s were cheaper than hi points.

It was just a different time. Now you have African countries and Latin Countries with more modern stuff.

    It ain’t coming back
