Kids make it all worth it.
Dogs are just creatures that, while they may provide a temporary substitute for companionship and the "caring purpose" all humans crave, are ultimately pointless, as are all pets.
Kids, sure they're imps of satan here and there, but you get real meaningful input and feedback, a *human* level of interaction that no animal can match, the satisfaction of watching them learn and progress, and when it's your time to pass on hopefully you will have created something that meant something real to not only yourself, but the people your kids interact with and love. That whole "Circle of Life" thing.

Dogs just die.

I think that's why there's so many angsty "all about their dogs" women in their single late 30s these days. It's substitute input and companionship that has let them live their best "independent" life, and like all substitute inputs, it's a great distraction from reality, but eventually you come back down to earth, and in the back of their minds...they know it's ultimately pointless; all the time and love they've invested in that creature will not last past their own existence. And they're not happy about it.
Society fixates on the "incel" but they are just as alone and lonely. It just won't ever be admitted.
Maybe that's why a lot of them also want to go skydiving...

Sure. But it doesn't work out like that for everyone. Growing up I never imagined not having kids. But that is the way my ball bounced. Sometimes I think it was for the best, I went through some hard stuff getting situated and if I went through that AND was failing to take care of a kid, I might not have been able to handle that.

To that extent I REALLY want a big cat, puma, lynx, bobcat, something along those lines.

Faith requires you to believe. But believing still has an element of doubt in it. Ask someone if they believe something will happen, or they know something will happen. Knowing is stronger than believing. I don't want to believe - I want to know!

Do I believe there is a Supreme Being?- Yes. Do I know there is a Supreme Being? - No. However, I have seen things over the years that push me closer to Knowing. This sort of talk puts me at odds with organized religion. Their faith is based on Believing, but I want something I can hold in my hand or appears in front of me that allows me to Know.

All of this is one of the Harsh Truths I've come to grips with.....

My homeboy! Cats are like little demented wannabe-ninjas that just do not.give.a.shit.. It's hilarious. The only better pet I've had was the chinchilla.

Sure. But it doesn't work out like that for everyone. Growing up I never imagined not having kids. But that is the way my ball bounced. Sometimes I think it was for the best, I went through some hard stuff getting situated and if I went through that AND was failing to take care of a kid, I might not have been able to handle that.

I get that.
But coming from a position where I may never get the chance to do that, regardless of what I choose...and also coming from a MASSIVE pet-owner background (seriously, I've had a variety so far from goats to a chinchilla)... you eventually see the other side of the coin in regard to non-human companionship.

African kids are killing each other inbetween shitting their guts out from disease or raping or getting raped

Women in SWA are beaten for no reason
Queers tossed off roofs

A few screaming chinamen protesting against a billion screaming chinamen for the very basics of individual freedom. And losing.

Women here in this country brought in by Ivans, Julios, or Changs to have their bodies sold to fat pathetic white guys

One Korea living in 2030 cyberpunk future and the other Korea living in the 20s.....the 1920s

Black kids here killing each other over neighborhoods, dope, and colors

Women in India getting Harvey Dented in acid attacks

An unending cycle of revolution and poverty literally beneath us in South America

Government racism towards the few white people in South Africa trying to keep the lights on and prevent famine

And our own government is going after wrongthink and trying to take away all the guns EXCEPT from the gangbangers.

And Greta has every world leader’s ear and she whines about the heat and making people vegan?

I suppose then when your time comes you can find joy in your remembering your father. Do you think as you lay dying, that will be one of the things on your mind?

I don't know, my mother basically died in my arms, a couple years ago. She had a DNR and we honored her wishes. I do not know what she was thinking, but I was thinking about the good times, with, I admit, sadness and selfishness, I knew there would be no more. Joy at her transition from this life came later.

If I'm not asleep, I'd like to think I'd be thinking about how good the life I've been allowed, has been.
