Performance Difference Between BRT Covert Comp (Original/Standard) and Mini?

Just like the title says: is there any practical difference?

I'm looking to put one on a 12.5" or 11.5" but haven't been able to dig up any info regarding the differences between the two. Or any info at all for the mini for that matter.

It stands to reason that shortening the standard model by 1/2" or so would have some sort of impact to it's efficacy, but to what extent?

Clint, the owner of BRT, is active here. He has a thread in the tech section that focuses on his barrels, but he answers questions about all of his products.

Sorry I can't answer your question, hopefully you're heading in the right direction to find it.

I own 2 BRT Coverts and they run nicely on a 12.5 and chill it out in terms of concussion and noise on the shooter/neighbors.

I'd guess the mini … because physics … probably has a wider/nearer concussive cone … and maybe sound dispersal … at distance. Think spread on a shot pattern based on barrel length.

It might also be less effective at flash suppression … the regular BRT is not quite A2 but certainly better than a number of comps/brakes that I have used.

To what difference/degree this impacts the shooter (or neighbors) is probably minimal as that spread is realized downrange …

Clint would now more but that is what I'd gather. FWIW, I would order the BRT again if the need arose.

I saw that but didn’t want to clutter up the thread and since I’ve been able to find zero information about the Covert Comp Mini, I figured it’s own thread could benefit the community at large. I’ve PMed him with the question and linked back to this thread. If there isn’t a response in a few more days I might cross post to that barrel thread.

That’s about what I figured, but would like a bit of a ballpark from actual users. It would be very helpful in making my choice if someone could say the extra length nets 10-25% “better” or if it’s more in the neighborhood of 50%+ lest blast/flash, etc.

    Hey Jeff,

We haven't done a side by side comparison of the Mini on 5.56, as is intended for 300BLK and 9mm applications.

It works nicely on those, so it should pretty well on 5.56, but not quite like the full size versions.

Since you need two Comps, just get one of each Regular and Mini to see which one provides the combination of size and performance you're looking for, and we'll swap the other one to the version of your choice.

Top-notch customer service there. Don't know when or what project for, but definitely earns a spot on my "Find Or MAKE A Reason To Do Business With Someday" list.

Awesome Clint, I appreciate that a lot. It’ll be a few weeks, but when I get home from being on the road I’ll order and report my very non-scientific, non-expert findings.

Bumping this back up. How did the mini perform with 5.56mm?

This went on the back burner for a bit but I picked up a mini during Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and a very lightly used standard model from a member here. The used one is still in transit, but when it arrives I’ll install and test them out on a couple uppers (11.5” & 12.5”) and see if there’s any perceivable difference. I’ll definitely post when I do.
