    What I said way back when: "Introduction. The S.A.S style Lower Rail Assembly will fit under either SOPMOD M4 RIS (USSOCOM) or US Army M4 RAS Upper Rail Forend Assemblies. It is intended for use as an enhanced lower rail assembly when the user desires a more secure lower. In other words, the S.A.S. style Lower Assembly has an optional screw activated clamp that reinforces the Delta Ring’s spring action forcing the rail into the Barrel Nut which makes the unit more secure..."
    The original motivation for this was USSOCOM's heavy-handed use of the Vertical Pistol Grip for pushing non-combatants out of the way in crowded situations...that, and muzzle smacking bad guys...
