    New buffer needed?

I’m new to this site and still a novice on AR builds. I currently have a Colt LE6920 and am considering adding a 20” BCM upper to the Colt lower.
Do I need to change the buffer going from carbine to rifle length?

    Thanks,
    Newbie

Nope, should work just fine as it is.

Thanks. That’s what I thought but wanted confirmation.

    Will work fine.

Does not affect function - but in my opinion - a 20” upper balances better with a fixed A1/A2 rifle length buffer tube and stock. I’m sure that there are some with the opposite opinion, though.

You don’t have to, but the Army had an entirely new buffer (H6) designed to allow for this transition to a 20” rifle upper vs a 14.5” carbine upper on a carbine system.

Damage Industries produces but are currently out of stock.

Could go the A5 route too.

Probably be happy the carbine buffer and spring, happier with either an H2 or H3. I'd use the H3.

I n the A5 he A5H2 seems to be what everyone recommends:

    Rifle: 5.0oz

    Carbine - 3oz

    H2 - 4.6
    H3 - 5.4

    A5H1 - 4.56
    A5H2 - 5.33

My duty rifle is a 20” barrel with a carbine length 6 position receiver extension and a standard carbine buffer. Initially it short stroked with Winchester (only thing my dept will buy) but with any other type of range ammo and duty ammo it was fine.

If you go that route I’d say to expect problems with certain types of ammunition. No experience with the A5.

Thanks. I’ll save that info in case I have any issues when switching to rifle length upper. 👍
