    Non-LEO SD and running out of bullets ?

    We all consider this. Using a gun (talking about handguns here) for self-defense and wondering what "enough" ammo in the gun and reloads is "comfortable"

    I recall a thread that was about how often Police reloaded their revolvers to stay in the fight and save themselves.

    Well, do we have any stories of non-LEO being injured or killed because they ran out of ammo?

    How about examples of non-LEO's whose reload or 2nd gun made a difference?

    Genuinely curious.

    I feel like only LEO's that have dealt with responsibly armed citizens using a firearm to defend themselves will be able to answer here. The reason being most of this might be about stories people have heard, or found online. I would be surprised to find many articles with this much information, given as to how terrible the media is on reporting "good guy" with a gun stories, let alone details that specific.

    Hopefully I'm wrong though, because the thought of the thread is great.

    The guy to ask on this one might be Mas Ayoob, since he's kind of the "data wonk" on these things. (I mean that in a good way. )
    You really have to ask why Conservatives have guns? Because Liberals block freeways, burn cities, throw Molotov cocktails, loot, turn over cop cars, and think this behavior is Socially Acceptable.

    Immediately comes to mind is the Trolley Square Mall shooting. An off-duty police officer with a 1911 was at a severe disadvantage dancing with a Jihadi due to no spare magazine or additional handgun. That said, the officer and his dispatcher wife worked together to limit the bad guy’s movement. Responding Salt Lake Officers resolved the situation. Pretty similar to a non-police CCW scenario.

    Another category would be small retail business owners that may have much worse attacks then a regular Joe. Like that watch repair guy in the 1980s(?) who had to fight off increasing numbers of robbers at his shop. I think he used four or five revolvers in defending against one robbery attempt.

    I believe this is the case where the officer swapped his Glock 21 for a Glock 17 after the shoot out and keeps a couple of 32 rounders available.

    A shootout between a truck driver making a delivery and 4 thugs in Detroit a couple years ago end with over 50 shots being fired.
    Since that time I have purchased a good belt (ares gear) and carry a m&p 9mm with 2 spare mags plus an air lite j-frame .357mag. That is a total of 56 rounds.
    If I never fire a shoot, that means I carried an extra 4 or 5 pounds around. Since I bought a good belt and holster, I don't even notice it.
    It is insurance in my eyes while working in a war zone like Detroit.

    The audio of the 911 call he made while in the midst of a gunfight is in there. The guy sounds like he was pretty cool under fire.
