The Service Animal Crap Has Got To Stop...

There is a difference between “service animals” and “emotional support animals.” Only dogs can be “service animals” (guide dog, seeing eye dog etc.) and are supposed to have specific training requirements. “Emotional support animals” can be almost any animal (miniature horses, pigs, and monkeys for example). No training required. IMHO the “emotional support animals” are the problem. They make a mess, growl, and even bite other passengers.

Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) requires airlines to allow service animals and emotional support animals to accompany their handlers in the cabin of the aircraft.

If you need an "emotional support animal" to fly, stay the **** home. This sort of bullshit is just one more reason I'll never fly commercially again.

Had two dogs with my ex, one of which could alert me when my blood sugar went low. I considered getting her certified... but too much of a pain for something that didn’t really do much for me. Am I going to go to restaurants with her? No. Food stores? Nope. Lowe’s and Cabela’s... they allow dogs already.

Sure as hell not going to have a service dog with me at the port. Too much crap going on, with cars/trucks driving around. Being Federal L/E got me the best thing I could ask for in regards to flying... not deal with TSA.

Glad that there aren’t “service” cats. Get stuck with one of those on a plane, then I’ll be pissed/sneezy. Miniature horse... maybe I’m not familiar with the care they require, but regular horses are a pain in the ass.

**** it, I'm getting a service honey badger. That said, was this a service animal or emotional support animal? ESAs aren't covered by the ADA and I'd tell her to ride her damn horse to her destination.

I couldn't care what someone brings on a plane as long as the plane lands without issue.

Trust me, I deal with this stuff day in and day out at my job. The problem is (with the law) is you are only able to ask two questions:

    1. Is this a service animal?

Outside of said mini horse and a dog, the answer will always be no since those are the only two creatures allowed to be service animals. So, no such thing as a service cat or service snake or service turkey, etc.

    2. What service does it provide?

Wording has to be accurate on this one since you start getting into HIPAA violations by asking pointed questions about a disability and get your ass sued off. Basically, those with service animals will tell you up front "yes, it is a service animal used as a guide dog" or "used to alert me to medical conditions." So on and so forth.

Basically, blame the airlines for allowing emotional support animals on planes. That's where this starts.
Accepted. Maybe I used the wrong terms. People who have an actual service animal that tells them when blood sugar is low and similar life threatening conditions are exempted and I tried to make that distinction in the OP.

Combat vets or anyone else with legit PTSD, again exempted. But I need my "snuggles" so I feel better about myself?...snuggles should be crated with the checked bags, especially if "snuggles" is a freaking horse.

We used to fly with dogs, he had to buy the largest kennel the airlines would accept so they could fly together and not spazz all the way out and we used to give them something the chill out, I think our vet had us give them dramamine.

Back then it wan't a problem we could watch the baggage handlers loading the dogs on the plane and usually they were social with the dogs. Only had one incident where they had some separation anxiety and if you listened closely you could hear them howling all the way from the baggage compartment even with the engine running.

But when we landed everything was fine. They were back to their retarded happy selves as soon as their kennel was brought into baggage claim and they saw us. Of course we didn't let them out of the kennel until we were OUTSIDE because everyone knows you don't let dogs run around the airport.

I know these days with the "flying bus" atmosphere you could just as easily end up smelling the person next to your for four hours, but would you really want to be that guy in first class who had his seat kicked by a mini horse trying to get comfortable on an airplane? Does anyone really deserve to have to smell a horse for four hours. Who cleans it if the horse decides to take a dump and why should anyone have to smell that for four hours?

When it comes to flying I'll be fine sitting neck deep in diarrhea as long as there's a 100% guarantee the plane lands safely. I cannot begin to explain how much I don't tolerate hights. I get it, statistically I'm more likely to get in a car accident but planes can't pull over. So if I HAVE TO fly my ONLY concern is landing.

Last time I flew it was to Europe. I was up 24hr before the flight, drank 2 bottles of cognac at home the day of the flight then up all night during the flight and up another 24hr after landing. I was so ampt up I wasn't even tired and drinking the 2 bottles of cognac was like drinking 2 bottles of water. Had no effect! I was up for close to 3 days but felt like I had just woke up that morning.
Same thing flying back. Both flights were perfect. Excellent weather, no turbulence.... just a smooth smooth flight. Logically I know this, however after that I refuse to get near a plane.
