Do the Sig. My SG553 is my absolute favorite 556 rifle.

The SLR106 is trash, who cares if it's lighter than a 553? If you need a light gun just get an AR... I have had an SLR!06 and hated it. SLR104, 107 are both great but the 106 is pretty troublesome.

I do like the SAM5.

Supported? , both the Aug and Sig are currently manufactured. If you're going for lightweight, cheap and well supported you shouldn't go with an SLR, AUG or Sig. OP hasn't asked for a cheap bugout rifle he can easily get parts for.

OP is stated he's looking for a quality black rifle and enjoys high quality European rifles. The Sig SG55X series are the pinnacle of that. Your experience with Exeter garbage is irrelevent. It would be no different than me saying the SLR106 is a bad choice because I didn't like my Century RAK47 (I don't own a Century RAK47.)

OP if you handle a Swiss Sig you will be hooked.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm still looking. I've sadly never messed with a Swiss sig but I imagine it's comparable to the B&T maybe a bit nicer. I also messed with the MDR today and thought it was interesting but I know they had some issues. Not sure if they were ironed out.

I have several SLR 106's they are for the most part- are as accurate as my M4's. I owned three SIG 556's but they weren't that reliable and overall heavier even with the aluminum lower than my SLR's. Maybe the Swiss guns are better, which I would expect them to be but then again- they'd still be heavier than my SLR's. So I'd rather keep the lighter weight rifles, plus being able to swap recoil springs, extractor springs, small parts with other AKM's, Valmets or Galil's is a plus. However them being AK's, you can't swap barrels easily and they are now out of production. As far as AUG's, they will take a beating, easy to swap parts, and just about the most reliable rifles I've owned next to my AK's. I recently took one of my new LE6920's to the range, six malfunctions across four mags in under two hundred rounds- unreal. Then my new Colt 1911 was shooting four inches low during the same range trip- so it was not a good day. So looking over everything I own or owned, the AUG is in my top three.

You must be a way better shot than me.

As for weight:

SLR-106 - 7.3 lbs.
SIG 551 - 7.9 lbs.

Swiss rifles can't even be compared to SIG 556 crap. It's like comparing a Russian Legion rifle to a Century receiver AK rifle.

Being able to swap parts with Valmets and Galils, considering how rare they are, is also pretty pointless. Be better off just getting spare parts for the SLR, SIG or AUG. It's not like there is going to be a mass uprising where you "go to the hills" with your SLR 106 and it just so happens that the guy next to you is running a Valmet so you can source parts from his rifle.

Not sure what is wrong with your 6920, but you are getting results that are just as surprising as the results you claim you are getting with your SLR. I've never seen a 6920 crap out that hard.

But seriously if you wanted to have a rifle with the most reliable source of parts and support, well that would be the AR. And everyone else's seems to work just fine. Either something is wrong with that specific rifle and it needs to go back to the factory, or it's a build, or all of your mags suck or something else is very, very wrong.

About the only thing really important coming out of training clinics where they fire a few thousand rounds over the space of a few days is you have a large sampling of what rifles can reliably be depended upon and what rifles choke and stall in the first hour and everything in between.
