FAL all the way, no contest. I've experienced all 3 both in semi and FA. Only the FAL was controllable, the G3 next, and the standard stock M14 was, essentially, not. I love the ergos on the FAL much better than the others. At current time though the HK mags are dirt cheap if that plays into it for you. The recoil on the HK91 (which I have owned more than one of, was particularly jarring. If you do the HK pattern check out the JLD PTR guns. If you go with an M1A I highly recommend the VLTOR stock with the AR grip and stock. Many owners of that stock do not realize (especially if they got it used) that the stock height actually has some adjustment to it.

A modernized FAL from DSA would be especially nice.

I wonder if the "G3 jarring recoil" comes from improperly setup clones? I know this is the case with the latching/folding cocking handle.

Real HK91's certainly have recoil, but Jarring, really??? My kids loved shooting ours as young as 9. Wish I had kept it!

I could see an improperly setup roller lock recoiling more.

However the HK's are nice to add optics to and really should be used in that role.
You have the worst luck with firearms, between the 6920s that just won't run and 91s that recoil harder than FALs and M1As.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

    I don't know, he's getting SLR106's that are better than Swiss 55X's. I'd say that's pretty lucky.

As far as my 91's, I simply upgraded to the heavier MSG-90/PSG-1 style buffers which cuts down on the sharper recoil.
So I'm an old nostalgic and still shoot my HK91s (an A2 and A3) and FALs (FN 50.63, and DSA 16" Para), as well as my more modern 7.62s, SCAR 17s and a KAC SR-25 ACC. I also had a '90s era SA M1A Bush Rifle, should have never have sold it. The HK91s (both A2/A3) are without a doubt the most abusive to shoot. They're a jackhammer to the shoulder. The DSA OTOH, is crazy soft recoiling with the ban era (Greyslake receiver) three hole brake. Shoots like a 5.56. I will say the second most uncomfortable 7.62 to shoot that I own is the SCAR. Recoil isn't that heavy, it's just snappy and slaps the crap out of me at the cheek (51T three prong FH). IMO, the FAL is the softest/level shooting, nothing else comes close. I love 7.62s.

    Where does the ACC rank?
