I disagree, but not enough to try and change your mind.
I'm sure there are places that are better depending upon a persons wants, needs and values, but I know there are places that are much worse.
I also know a lot of things are perspective. Talk to someone who grew up in the Soviet Union and for the most part, the US is glorious and full of opportunity. But talk to a 20 something tech millionaire in Silicon Valley and they probably do think the US is terrible and full of people trying to kill the planet that we all live on.

If nothing else, the promise of this nation is worth defending. In hope that someday that promise will be fully realized.
It also happens to be a damn sight better than anywhere else so even the status quo is worth it to me.
Go Ukraine! Piss on the Russian dead.
The promise of this country is defending, but that promise will not be realized as liberals migrate to red cities and turn them blue. This country is very close to turning blue at every level. Once that happens, it’s over. There is no where else to go. Education and media are controlled by the left. It is too late.
I've heard the same line by others who have a rap sheet longer than my arm. You keep referring to some mistake - are you on the lam, a druggie...what? The average homeless give-me-money ex-con with a cardboard sign in front of Wal-Mart begging for a handout is usually some loser who never accepted the free gift of a 12 year education because of drugs or some other cop out. They blame society for their beef, but in reality it was their own failure. Don't do drugs, go to school, hang with the right people. Do just the basics and you can slide thru life with some kind of success with just moderate effort.
What makes America worth defending (besides the Oath I took twice) is a Country which is based on the individual. Your reasons can be altruistic or selfish in nature. You can be a social butterfly or a hermit - your choice. You can work hard or be a bum - your choice. America has just enough of a social safety net to give some assistance if you need it, or not enough. It can be a survival of the fittest like Darwin if you're not good enough to compete, or various levels of success if you choose to compete for personal wealth and social elevation.
America is what YOU make of it. My paternal ancestors have been here continuous since 1621, before there was an America. If it's not working out for you, make personal changes or call it quits. Detach from society, become a sovereign citizen, you might move to the the sticks, or move to Panama or some other place. Life is all about choices - taking various paths - doors open, doors close. Just don't sit around with your lips pooched out moaning about things. Do something. What makes the homo sapien different than an animal is we modify our environment, not just live in the environment. Modify yourself and everything around you to make it a better world, even if it's just for you.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen you post one optimistic thing ever. You're obsessed with doom and gloom. You'd feel a lot better if you actually tried to find something positive in life.
You know what's killing us? It's not that we're fighting a hopeless battle. It's that we're not fighting ANY battle! All I hear is this woe is us, it's over, it's hopeless, nothing is worth fighting for, waah!
This is why I distance myself from most conservatives now. The left may be the enemies of all that's good, but I see nothing but apathy and cowardice from the right. Just a bunch of guys who curse the day they were born because they can't find anything good about anything, and they don't want to even attempt to make things better because they're just a bunch of mopey emos who declare defeat before even trying anything.
Yeah, maybe the odds and the winds of change are against us. But you don't just surrender when the odds are not in your favor. "The thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." If you're not going to fight, give your guns to someone who will.
I think you just need to get out of Philly. Anywhere about 10 miles north or west of Philly and you'll find a LOT more likeminded people and realize that there's a lot of hope even in your own backyard.

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who do not.-Ben Franklin
there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.-Samwise Gamgee
I'm pretty sure every generation eventually feels like that, and to a certain extent every generation is right. But at the same time it's very much a perception issue. I don't think you'd have survived the US during it's fascination with socialism during the 1930s or it's radical revolution of the 1960s.
