You have truly degenerate behavior left and right, etc. What makes this country great? What still makes it worth defending?
    What are the alternatives?
If you let your life be defined by everything thats ****ed up in the world then there's no use.
Another approach is to narrow your focus. What can I do right now to improve my situation? Is consuming negative media making a positive difference in my life, my outlook, my perspective, my attitude? Or if I used that time to exercise and improve my health be of more benefit to me and those who depend on me?
Life is a gift. We do our part by making the most out of it. Some times its the little things like being cheerful and helpful in spite of the struggle.
You're an American living in America. Live a life that is worth defending.

The average homeless give-me-money ex-con with a cardboard sign in front of Wal-Mart begging for a handout is usually some loser who never accepted the free gift of a 12 year education because of drugs or some other cop out. They blame society for their beef, but in reality it was their own failure. Don't do drugs, go to school, hang with the right people. Do just the basics and you can slide thru life with some kind of success with just moderate effort.

What makes America worth defending (besides the Oath I took twice) is a Country which is based on the individual. Your reasons can be altruistic or selfish in nature. You can be a social butterfly or a hermit - your choice. You can work hard or be a bum - your choice. America has just enough of a social safety net to give some assistance if you need it, or not enough. It can be a survival of the fittest like Darwin if you're not good enough to compete, or various levels of success if you choose to compete for personal wealth and social elevation.

America is what YOU make of it. My paternal ancestors have been here continuous since 1621, before there was an America. If it's not working out for you, make personal changes or call it quits. Detach from society, become a sovereign citizen, you might move to the the sticks, or move to Panama or some other place. Life is all about choices - taking various paths - doors open, doors close. Just don't sit around with your lips pooched out moaning about things. Do something. What makes the homo sapien different than an animal is we modify our environment, not just live in the environment. Modify yourself and everything around you to make it a better world, even if it's just for you.
    Great post. Valid thoughts.
Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President... - Theodore Roosevelt, Lincoln and Free Speech, Metropolitan Magazine, Volume 47, Number 6, May 1918.

Every Communist must grasp the truth. Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun. Our principle is that the Party commands the gun, and the gun must never be allowed to command the Party Mao Zedong, 6 November, 1938 - speech to the Communist Patry of China's sixth Central Committee

    THIS.

Unfortunately most people anymore are in a rut where they go to work where they look at their phones or computers and read all the doom and gloom news theater tailored to their particular set of triggers, then go home and do the same thing, then back again.

The vast majority of social media anymore is echo chambers that have to continually ratchet up the drama to keep everyone interested. Just look at the last year of posts here about Civil War 2, gun confiscation, on and on. The same thing is going on with the gay community up in arms about conservative this or that, or liberal left about every single thing Trump does.

You know when I'm the happiest? When I'm out traveling and away from the internet. When I'm out on the road going around the country eating in different restaurants with random strangers, bumping into people at gas stations, hotels, etc. the world is still an interesting cool place. I can be chilling out eating my steak and eggs in a rural Alabama Waffle House and be the only white guy in there and cut up with the waitresses and everybody gets along just fine. Or walking down the beach in Miami watching everybody check each other out.

For the most part I actually enjoy going through major airports just because I get to bump into all sorts of different people with different stories and paths. A while back I spent two hours on a flight in first class talking to the guy next to me who was an up and coming rapper. He started the conversation by complimenting my cowboy boots.

The problem is everyone has a miniature computer in their pocket that has multiple programs that roll a constant trigger feed of information to them based on their personal specific trigger topics. It's basic custom tailored mass hysteria and fear/hate mongering.

America is still the best country that has ever exited and for the very most part its people are all still cool outside of the small epicenters of drama and hysteria.

    Same.

The better questions isn’t “is this country worth defending?” It’s “why aren’t we defending it from those who are actively trying to destroy it?”

You know what's killing us? It's not that we're fighting a hopeless battle. It's that we're not fighting ANY battle! All I hear is this woe is us, it's over, it's hopeless, nothing is worth fighting for, waah!

This is why I distance myself from most conservatives now. The left may be the enemies of all that's good, but I see nothing but apathy and cowardice from the right. Just a bunch of guys who curse the day they were born because they can't find anything good about anything, and they don't want to even attempt to make things better because they're just a bunch of mopey emos who declare defeat before even trying anything.

Yeah, maybe the odds and the winds of change are against us. But you don't just surrender when the odds are not in your favor. "The thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." If you're not going to fight, give your guns to someone who will.

I think you just need to get out of Philly. Anywhere about 10 miles north or west of Philly and you'll find a LOT more likeminded people and realize that there's a lot of hope even in your own backyard.
I did move out of Philly to the suburbs. It's much nicer. Ih have other things I enjoy besides shooting and firearms, like music and playing guitar. I'm just frustrated

They already threatened the supreme Court if they rule in favor of any second amendment cases they will pack the court with as many anti 2A justices as they can. Then you can kiss your guns goodbye for real. Along with the Constitution. So when that happens there's no point to be proud and defend this country. Unless another civil war happens. But nobody has balls to stand up to tyranny anymore.
I think you are right about the country turning blue and going full socialist. Can anyone sight any examples of a country marching towards socialism and then turning it around? Socialism and the expansion of government/corruption go hand in hand. What governments have uncorrupted themselves?

The U.S.S.R? The place where it all started? Yes, it still could be considered socialist by U.S. standards, and some of the countries that broke off the U.S.S.R. are pretty corrupt, but Hell almost all the former U.S.S.R. countries were monarchies of some sort just 110 years ago.
