    Shims

Just got a new muzzle break, needed it to mount a suppressor. Gunsmith installed two shims instead of one with the brake - is this OK? Did he screw up and try to improvise because he didn’t have the right size (single) shim? Should I bring it back for do-over?

Some muzzle devices (like SureFire for example) may require the use of one or more shims to achieve proper timing. Other muzzle devices utilize a single crush washer that may resemble the use of a shim.

What muzzle 'brake' did you purchase?

Thanks for the reply. A Rugged brake came with the Rugged suppressor. The company says don’t use a crush washer.

I do not have experience with anything manufactured by Rugged but here is my $0.02.

If your gunsmith followed the instructions from Rugged (https://ruggedsuppressors.com/wp-con...structions.pdf), then he would of secured the muzzle brake with Rockset or Red Locktite. I think you are good to go.

If I wanted to time the device with one shim I'd use Accu-Washer: https://precisionarmament.com/produc...washer-system/

I second the use of these shims.

In case it’s not clear from the other replies, depending on the type of shims used, it’s perfectly normal to use more than one shim.
