Corbon .223 Rem 77gr. MPR for Home Defense?

I own a Colt AR-15 -model 6920 with a 1 -7 twist ! For home defense I am considering using Corbon's .223 Rem 77gr..MPR-- the only information I have on this round is the following-

    Caliber: 223 Rem
    Bullet Wt.: 77gr MPR™
    Velocity: 2800fps
    Energy: 1341ftlbs
    Test Barrel Length: 16.0 Inches
    20 rounds per box

I have practiced many times with this rifle at our local range but 1 week ago our local police could not catch an armed person fleeing from our town. This is in no way against our local police but at the same time brings my color code of caution up a notch!
Anyone have any info or heard things about this ammo?
Thank-you for your time and have a good Thanksgiven!

Are you thinking of a need to use it outside your house, or inside the house? And if you are thinking of "catching an armed person fleeing" from your home, please, lawyer up for that shooting. You'll need a good one.

My way of thinking is if you can't find an excellent self defense round for $ .80 or less you aren't doing your homework.

To answer your question, yes, it should work well on unobstructed shots. Fusion MSR is cheaper, and barrier blind. A video, and some recent relevant threads:

This has been hashed out quite a bit in this forum and the ammo forum.

Thank-you for your reply! I guess I am getting away from my USMC training--keep it simple! Do you have any thoughts on a good .223/5.56 ammo for home defense?

The Speer Gold Dot is a 75 grain SP but it is an excellent round and good for short barrels also, as mentioned the Fusion MSR is also a good round and readily available. Honestly Bone Frog has the LE Speer Gold Dot 75 grain right now at .62 a round on 100 and 500 rd lots and free shipping on a 500 rd case, I would snag a case right now for a couple of load outs. FWIW I would stick with the 75 grain.

I have a high opinion of 75 gr Gold Dot. If I could offer one criticism, its that it’s loaded fairly light. Despite that, terminal performance is at the front of the pack.

Its a bit slow but anything from light. Its the most violently cycling ammo in my inventory. Far more than any 5.56 pressure stuff I have.

Shoot Federal or Winchester M193 at $0.30 per round. 55 grains at 3100 fps does the job. The expensive stuff just blows a hole in your wallet.
