What you right hand knows to do and find, the left hand knows to do and find on the left side, this is already a part of us, which is our reason for placing the ambi controls as close to the same locations (on the other side) as their right side counterparts as possible. This isn't always possible, it's a best effort to mirror these controls on both sides.

We wouldn't want an ambi mag catch to be too low, too far or too close, compared to the right side mag release button. This is relatively easy to do. A right side bolt catch/release is harder to mirror, as there's the ejection port and shell deflector in the way. I like LMT's implementation of the right side bolt catch best.

That is a San Tan Tactical STT-15 lower with the Geissele logo on it. Compare:

Ah. Good spot. I wasn’t familiar with the San Tan.

    Interesting left-side mag release placement...

    Yeah it's pretty bleh.

The Knight's add-on left-hand magazine release isn't much better. It places the release button right on top of the trigger, which does actually make sense if you're using coupled mags or a Redi-Mag:

Another interesting add-on is the Smith Tactics Battle Bar. I actually really like the idea of having the bolt-catch/release mirrored on both sides in a place where you can hit either with your trigger finger, but this one just seems like it's way too far back on the receiver.

IMHO, all of these goals are probably more easily addressed with something like an ACR/FAL-style bolt catch/release.

After using LMt MARS and LWRC lowers, I have a hard time buying anything that isn't ambi.
