Diet can be a major part of a lifestyle change.

How many fad diets have you tried ?

Changing to a healthy diet from an unhealthy one is a positive lifestyle change.

Fad diets are what people do instead of lifestyle change because it’s easier. They convince themselves that it’s the same thing and then are surprised when they gain the weight back.

They convince themselves "it's " the same thing as what ?

How do they gain the weight back without changing the diet ?

They convince themselves that a fad diet is the same thing as lifestyle change. They want to believe that because fad diets are easier. They lose the weight but can’t sustain the diet, return to old eating habits and gain the weight back. Classic yo-yo diet scenario.

Then a potato diet does not meet your criteria of a fad diet.

Your "potato diet" is the epitome of a "fad diet". It's your anecdote of your success with it that doesn't even come close to meeting criteria for anything resembling statistical significance.

Not so, and I am living proof of that. I eat spuds with every meal and have no desire to change.

PS, What is your height age and weight ?
