    SIG's new .277 Fury cartridge

Yet another new round on the way. Think this will find a market?

"Developed by SIG Sauer the new round is the result of their work on the US Army’s 6.8mm Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) program."

Just think of the marketing opportunity for the all-important furry market.

Anyway, looks interesting but need the details. It sounds like it's going to be a very high pressure barrel-burner type cartridge like all the various overpriced short magnums. Hope I'm wrong, but that's first impression.

The three-piece cartridge case looks interesting. Appears that it gives all the benefits of a brass case while using less brass (maybe half?) and being cheaper and lighter as well. If it works, that sounds more interesting than the specific loading.

So it’s to replace the 7.62 and not the 5.56? I know they’ll tout it as universal, but assuming it even goes anywhere, given it’s size, I can’t see it as the one round to rule them all.

I am excited about this if they don’t SIG it up. Hoping to see it opened up to the industry and have some wide availability of rounds.

Eric Graves from Soldier Systems tasted the belt feds and carbines in 277. Said the carbines had less felt recoil then the AR10.

According to the spec sheets in the Sig catalog they are getting about 3000fps at the muzzle on a 16” barrel. I will try to post the spec sheets later but it beat the 6.5CM in both 16” and 24” barrels.
