Well guys, I made the plunge into 1911's and spent some money. It's a good story, and I think I can say that I'll end up also spending a fair amount of time on them. I had pretty much made my mind up to get in the game, but wait for a newly designed 2020 Dan Wesson Specialist as a thin preference over a TRP, even though I knew that would put me over budget. There are also a bunch of nice guns in the classifieds at 1911addicts.com, but for various reasons my confidence in shopping the classifieds for my first 1911 wasn't very high. However, after the Christmas and New Year holidays, I was driving back home to Colorado from Ohio with my wife and we stopped at Brownells for a break to stretch our legs and poke around the retail store for a half an hour. That's when this nice little pre-owned Ed Brown Special Forces .45 caught my eye. I handled and dry fired it for a few minutes and I was impressed, but I didn't buy it, in no small part because of the price tag on it.
So about a week later I was still thinking about that pistol, so I decided to do a little more research. I checked the serial number to learn it has a 2016 production date, and I started looking a little closer at Ed Brown as an option, and I liked what I saw. High end quality custom manufacturer, transferable lifetime warranty, easy (factory) upgrades and additional customization, great reputation and history, sweet looking, feeling, and presumably shooting pistols, what's not to like? Except for the prices of course. Price. Well, I think to myself, let's see what we can do about that, so I called up Brownells to see if we could make a deal.
Deal! I'm so excited! After a little negotiation and an additional 10% code, I was able to secure this little beauty for $1484.99. $1604.50 total out the door including tax, transfer, and background check. It showed up Monday, I've got a case of AE 230 grain FMJ ready, and I've got a few ETM and Power Mags on the way. I can't wait to shoot it, but on top of that, I'm at Shot Show this year for the 1st time so you can bet I'll swing by the VZ booth among a few others. Thanks for all the advice and input. It's turning out to be a great week!
