Last knife for 2019 PhD Pattern
Last knife finished for the year. This is a PhD pattern (Paring Hunter Drippoint) in orange G10. This is my go to pattern for whitetail and small game. It has proven to be large enough to break down the whole deer both in the field and back at home to debone and have muscle groups ready for the freezer without being too large to toss in your pack. Also being a compact size it allows for long use without tiring out your hand that some patterns can cause.
Thanks for checking out my work!

I like that geometry.
Brian, what steel(s) do you like to use for a field knife like that, where hard use, bone and blood is a consideration? I am always wondering about that, where bone could turn and edge and blood could stain or damage the finish, leading to rust down the road.

I like 0-1 steel. Ages and patinas with use. I just wipe mine down good after bloody with water and get all the blood off. Dry it well and I’ve never had any problems. Sure it steins and has surface tarnish but it reminds me of what I’ve done with it.
I have had great luck with just a little extra care in the field. No different than I would with my blued gun. Any surface visuals just tells a story in time.
If I was worried I would choose D2 as it is a tool steel yet much more stain resistant. But I like 0-1 for some reason better. Maybe it’s the toothier edge it gets?? Not sure but all my user knives are 0-1.

That is really nice sir. I have been looking for a good hunting knife that will last, do you make these for purchase?
