Practical draw and shoot drills from concealement?

I searched back five years and didn't see a thread dedicated to this. They are kind of scattered about.

I'm thinking about the "meat and potatoes" / "80%" drills. Not engaging 5 targets, Not firing 10 rounds per drill, probably not even reloads.

What time should we be going for to draw from hands at sides from concealment to hole in an A zone from 3 yds or 10 or 25, etc.?

    2 seconds at 10 yds? 2.5? 3.0? Cold?

I want to find or make a drill for this.

The Church shooting in White Settlement has me thinking about this. Not for the same scenario, mind you, but in any situation when a shot (or 2, or 5) needs to be fired quickly from a pistol that starts concealed on your person.

I want to put this down on paper for myself with the guns I carry so I can reference it and track my progress.

    Maybe something like this: https://sentinelconcepts.com/wp-cont...15RdWarmUp.pdf

    Or this: https://firearmrack.com/no-fail-shot-drill/

Note that these are more assessments than practice. For practice, I would always go for at least 2 shots; it's way too easy to cheat the grip in one-shot draws.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

A simple test, certainly valid in view of recent events:

This should be trained dry and verified with live fire.
2 seconds is considered a base standard, but you should be closer to 1.5 seconds at close targets.
Testing should be draw and 1 shot on target, and bill drills from concealment to keep your grip honest.

Videotape yourself (slow motion with a cellphone) and analyze to see where you are giving up time. You can post them here if you need help seeing where to improve.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing. We discussed this last night, in fact.

The long accepted maximum time for a draw from concealment, with COM hit, from 10 yds+- is 1.5 seconds.
    In agreement with Megademic.

Here’s a really good drill, especially considering the recent events

I ran some drills and got some times. I did each drill several times. I hadn't fired a gun in all of December This really showed up when I got to the revolver.

Targets were B8's. Trying to keep them in the black. (9 and X rings) The black area is about 5.5 inches in diameter.

Beretta M81FS, from real concealment, (ISWB holster, buttoned shirt) first shot DA, second shots SA. The Beretta shoots high at 15 yds and very high at 25 which I have to factor in. This hurt my scores.

When I say, "Par time" I mean the time I almost always beat.

25 yds 1 rnd: Could not consistently get them in the black, I had about 20 % of shots land in the 8-ring. Times were under 3.0 seconds.

15 yds 1 rnd: Par time 2.7 seconds. For 2 rnds time was under 3.0 seconds with the occasional hit in the 8-ring.

10 yds 2 rnds: Par time 2.7 seconds.

7 yds 2 rnds: Par time 2.5 seconds

3 yds 2 rnds Par time 2.0 seconds

1 yd 2 rnds from retention Par time 1.6 seconds.

I did the same drills with a Ruger LCR .357. (Also from real concealment ISWB holster and shirt) The LCR shoots low with 125 gr ammo, real low at 25 yds. This affected my scores as I had to adjust my POA.

25 yds: Awful! Skills really depreciated. I nearly always hit the B8 paper. Not consistent enough to score.

15 yds: Also awful. Some hits outside of the 8-ring. Really need to spend time with the revolver if I'm going to get my mojo back with it.

10 yds 2 rnds: Back in the black consistently. Par time 3.2 seconds, no matter what the load. This was a surprise.

7 yds 2 rnds: Par Time 3.0 seconds with everything again.

3 yds 2 rnds: Par time 2.5 seconds with .38 target ammo, 2.8 with +P ammo, and 2.6 with mild .357 ammo. (158 gr Blazer) Maybe I was getting fatigued or something. Can't explain the inconsistency.

1 yd 2 rnds from retention: Par time 1.7 seconds with all loads.

Had fired about 35 rds of .357 magnum. Hand sore.

Anyway, I've got some numbers written down to work with. I wish I'd brought my Glock 19 to compare, and wanted to do this with my Beretta .25, but there just wasn't enough time. I'll do those another day.

As for filming myself, I'm not a "tech guy". I have a 15 yr old digital camera and a cell phone. I did win a Go-Pro once! But sold it NIB because I just wasn't interested.

What are ya'll calling "COM"? I've been trying to aim small miss small considering the black part of a B8 the kinds of groups I want. Sometimes I do Dot Drills but the dot sheets I have are 2 inch Dots. A little small IMO. I'd like some three or four inch dots I can shoot at from farther away.
