DHS (Trump) decertifies NY participation in the Global Entry program

Have not seen this mentioned here... DHS just decertified NY residents from being able to get Global Entry due to their new sanctuary laws enabling illegal non-US citizens to get driver licenses. "Green Light"

Driver's license is one of the main ID requirements. I suspect it'll be challenged because you can get it without a driver's license.

The wailing is a bit funny, as this hits the elite hard, who would be more likely to travel outside the US and pay the $100 for Global Entry to speed/bypass reentry. Joe the plumber probably would never bother getting Global Entry.

May not be 4d chess, but its a pretty clever move, 2d chess anyway.

    From the NY DMV:
    Code:
The Driver's License Access and Privacy Act, commonly called the 'Green Light law', was enacted on June 17, 2019, and takes effect on December 16, 2019. It allows all New Yorkers age 16 and older to apply for a standard, not for federal purpose, non-commercial driver license or learner permit regardless of their citizenship or lawful status in the United States.

Under the Driver's License Access and Privacy Act, driver license applicants who have never been issued a Social Security Number are eligible to apply.

You must sign an Affidavit (sworn statement) of never having been issued a Social Security Number when you apply for a standard driver license
    The initiative:
    Code:
The mission of Green Light NY: Driving Together is to ensure equal access to driver’s licenses for all residents of New York State, regardless of immigration status. Our coalition brings together immigrant communities, advocates, allies, and other stakeholders throughout the state to coordinate a unified driver’s license campaign.
Note the "not for federal purposes" caveat

    Much wailing ensues:

Sadly, they couldn't figure a way to include TSA PreCheck in the exclusion. THAT would generate some real wailing.

Will illegal aliens be able to get a RealID-compliant driver's license?

Not without proper documentation: valid permanent resident resident card, unexpired foreign passport with US visa and I-94, or valid EAD card. So in short, if illegal, then no unless they have fraudulent documentation.

So...how would an illegal alien (non-DACA, apparently) enter a Federal or fly on an airplane?

They can fly on their passport obviously, but presumably not if here illegally.

I don't view this as a way to keep illegals from flying, it's really more a consequence of refusing to play nice with the feds.

I think the language in the DMV blurb was key, a regular NY drivers license under green light is not suitable for federal purposes. That would mean real ID and similar would be out.

But I'm perfectly okay with playing hardball on federal services if the state is doing sanctuary city stuff that is out of alignment with Federal law.

Of course we'd come to regret it if there was some kind of federal firearms laws passed we didn't like and States chose to ignore it :-).

It's not the license, NY also cut them out of the database. DL databases are used to cross reference name, DOB, and picture.
