Savage Axis vs Remington 700 SPS

I'm looking for a bolt gun in .223 to punch holes in targets, nothing more. I found an unfired Savage Axis (pre accutrigger) for $200. I also found an unfired Remington 700 SPS for $450. I realize the Remington will have more options available as far as accessories go, but I would like to get everyone's opinion, especially those with a Savage Axis.

I go with the Remington. There’s just so much more of an upside to the Remington.

If I was going to spend $450 on a Remington I’d spend a little more and get a Tikka. You can get a T3x for $579 and it’s a much better rifle than either of the two.

^^^^^^Precisely what he said. I now own two Tikka T3 Lite's and they are superbly accurate. One in 300 WSM and one in 7mm-08.

Used to be a Remington fan but feel the quality isn’t there anymore. I now shoot savage rifles. Most accurate rifles I’ve owned. I don’t have an axis but do have a model 11 and 110.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I ended up getting a CZ 527 Carbine.

The CZ should be just fine.
