    Ceramic Armor Durability

Hey all, looking for some feedback on the durability of ceramic body armor. I have a pair of Velocity Systems Level IV standalone ceramic armor dated manufacture in 2013. I took the plates out of my plate carrier to look over and inspect, then I decided to show my wife one of the plates as it's up against my chest. First thing she decides to do is come up to me and punch me in the plate! Thank god she wasn't wearing her rings.

So I've heard ceramic can be fragile from dropping, but how well do they hold up to punches? Am I simply overthinking this?

Tale of the tape on wife?

Seriously, you think these can't withstand a ladypunch?

The fragility of ceramic plates is a bit overblown, if you dropped them on their edges you could cause micro fractures near the edges.

They say they need to be x-rayed but that is more of a government CYA.
That's not to say you shouldn't treat them like gym weights and throw them around but they would do more damage to your wife's hand than the plate.

Hahaha, she's a fiesty woman of polish descent. But good to know that ceramic is more durable than internet myth makes them out to be.

If plates were that fragile, none of them would survive an airborne operation or even 5 minutes with PVT Joe Snuffy. The idea that any mild impact will cause them to shatter like glass is quite ridiculous.
It's f*****g great, putting holes in people, all the time, and it just puts 'em down mate, they drop like sacks of s**t when they go down with this.
