What is Mil-Spec? Military Specifications are standards put in place by the General Accountability Office (GAO) for defining requirements and standardized measurements of equipment used by the military. These standards have been established to guarantee interoperability, commonality and reliability for each part purchased for military use.

Is this a complete definition of Mil-Spec?

Unless you're a large institutional organization fielding large numbers of carbines it's probably not worth the expense and loss of compatibility with standard action springs and buffers. The big selling point is that it lasts longer (loses length slower), is 15% stronger and eliminates the "sproing" noise. You decide if it's worth $65 bucks vs periodically replacing a $6 spring or a $20 Sprinco (Iraqgunz recommended) that may last as long or at least longer than an OEM spring (conjecture, I've not seen it tested).

The Tubb flatwire is also stronger than a factory spring and practically never needs to be replaced while still being compatible with normal buffers-and it's less than half the price.

The spring noise is a non issue, the elimination of which brings nothing to the table, it's about as useful as felt tape on the shell deflector. An extra spring rate spring can cause failure to lock back the bolt after the last shot. A new phenomenon I discovered was the stiffer spring pushes the upper forward with more gusto, to the point it was impossible to pull out the take down pin without a tool. I had noticed this, and it was echoed by other users.

When full FCD ARs are available, Vltor A5 will be the standard RE/buffer/spring configuration, with a drop down menu to opt for a standard carbine RE/buffer/spring setup.

Probably the worst product Geissele has released. Braided has a faster load rate. Its rate x rate squared instead of constant force per length. And if one coil breaks, the combined effect is lost exponentially. Also more $ to make. Just use a std spring. Springco does good shit.

The faster load rate and extra spring rate might be offset with lighter buffers, but it just begs the question: why?
Don't create the problem to begin with, there's then no need to create a solution to cure that problem.

Makes me wonder. Many obnoxious brakes and comps makers also make blast shields to make them less offensive to folks standing by the user. A better solution is don't make these stupid things, then you wouldn't have to fix the problems they cause.

They are mandated in California. No mil spec hiders are allowed.

A brake and comp with the shield essentially becomes a heavy suppressor. There are hybrid muzzle devices that don't produce the level of blast and concussion, that'd be a better way to go than a comp or brake that requires additional hardware to tame their nasty tendencies.

In the case of Californication just open the inside of the milspec bird cage and it will no longer meet the drawing for milspec as the internal bore will exceed the hole size called for on the drawing.
