    Bingo.

Requirements drive the specification. If you want a better AKA different spec, start by identifying what you want the product to do, then figure out how to get it there. Something like:

Increase MRBF vs M4A1 carbine by 5+%, 10+% suppressed
Add ambidexterity features that are backwards compatible with legacy M4A1 carbine
Accuracy standard is minimum 2 MOA 10 shot group using Black Hills Mk262
Barrel shall be free floated to minimize deflection while shooting from barricades or bipods
Decrease or eliminate the need for lubrication of the operating system
Increase barrel life by 10+% vs M4A1 carbine
Decrease weight by 1+% vs M4A1 carbine
Ergonomic improvements shall be considered for use with body armor and shooting from a "squared" stance

    Blah blah blah

If you are going to do a "better than mil spec" thread and give examples, shouldn't those offering examples give a few words as to why their offering is better than mil spec?

I did, in the very first post.

    Here’s a build as an example;

    BCM UPPER ASSEMBLY- Milspec
Sionics medium contour barrel- not milspec (barrel profile)
Sionics nitride has tube- not milspec (nitride)
    Giessele Gas Block? Not sure
    SLGW M76 rail? Not sure

BCM Lower- not milspec (not full auto or full auto inner dimensions
    BCM LPK- milspec
Semi auto triggers are not milspec
SLGW BCG- almost milspec except for the extractor spring

Hardly anything listed is true milspec.

    Not hard to top mil-spec:

Yeah, but is any of that better and how did you quantify it? I don't understand WTF nitriding a gas tube is supposed to do besides make it more expensive though.

Sprinco green rifle spring in a Vltor A5 buffer system with A5H2 buffer. Increase service interval; increase operational window for weak/strong ammo, lubrication, suppressed/unsupressed and cleanliness/dirtiness; reduce muzzle movement under recoil.

My biggest peeve about "mil-spec" is that there isn't one for 7.62, how nice would it be to have that to start from.
