    Noveske or KAC

My BIL is getting his first AR later this year. Between the Nov and KAC, he is leaning to a Nov 16” PDW or 16” Infidel.

I have two Bcm uppers and know nothing about Nov or KAC since they are way out of my budget.

I’ve offered him to shoot my rifles so he can get some trigger time and learn about what he may want in an Ar.

    Budget for rifle/scope/mount/sling/light/buis/2 stage trigger/ambi controls/mlok handguard
    Approx $4,000

    I’ve suggested:
•pinned FSB but I think he doesn’t care for the look
    •16” pencil barrel
•getting 2 colt oem rifles and a case or 2 of ammo. (1 is none, 2 is 1)

    Use:
    Deterrent to looters
Not for recreation shooting or hunting.
I don’t think he will shoot it much after he gets the hang of it and how to clear any malfs.
It is basically a tool to him and he doesn’t mind paying the premium for quality tools.

    FWIW:
He just got a used Beretta 1201 inertia shotgun. He thinks a shotgun is a better fit for his needs and it only cost $600 so he got that first

    Why:
From his job, he learned the government won’t be ready if we get a direct hit from a hurricane and it will take a while before roadways will be cleared and supplies and their distribution is restored. So the Ar is just another item on his prep list. It is not a toy to him. He is not a gun guy.....he is doing his will / trust before he buys an Ar. At times, I think he is part Vulcan.

    Appreciate any advice or guidance
    Thanks!

Honestly, for his use, it really does not matter. Both are good weapons.

He'd be just as well served with a cheap PSA AR15 than he would be with a Noveske or KAC if he doesn't plan on shooting it.

From what you have listed, there is no real metric to go off of so tell him to choose the one that he finds most desirable.

    2000rds of Ammo $700

Seems pretty easy to fill that 4k budget and be set for life....

Tell him a Noveske or KAC are Ferrari’s, he really needs a Ford, Chevy or Toyota. A Colt, BCM, Sionics, SOLGW or half a dozen other manufacturers make a great “tool”. Then a red dot like a Aimpount Pro or H-1 that has ridiculous battery life, he wants it to work whenever he needs it and it sounds like he needs something low maintenance. A light I’d also go quality name brand, knock offs are great for weekend warriors but if he needs something to work when the lights go out and nobody’s coming I wouldn’t go cheap. Next the sling, unless he trains and practices or uses one hunting regularly it’s more likely to get in the way. Lastly, ammo and training.

Take $1000 and register for two carbine classes. So he has a budget of $3000, which people show above can be filled pretty well with quality items. Drop the LPVO and Aimpoint for a Trijicon MRO to save $300 or so, since we’re talking Fords.

I'd go with the two Colts option in two different configs. I've owned just about all of them but a BCM or KAC. I'd live to have a KAC. But for it's purpose, it or Noveske just aren't really worth the coin these days.

Sounds like a cool guy who appreciates high quality tools.

If he wants a KAC and can afford it, no reason to talk him out of it.

    KAC SR15 E3 Mod 2 $2700
Aimpoint T2 with ADM mount $750
Surefire scout / IWC mount combo $250
    BFG sling with QDs $80
    10 pack M3 Pmags $120
    500 rounds (XM556SBCT3) $500

$4500. Run a few mags through to test function and zero. Then load up all 10 mags and put it all away in storage with a few spare batteries.

KAC all day. Noveske hasn’t been worth the money in a long time.

I wouldn't trade my pre-2013 Noveske 14.5" CL SB for much of anything, but today I'd take a KAC, LMT, Colt, DD, Centurion, Sionics all day.

Wow. What a pleasant problem. Spending $4K to get set up for anti-looting work in the aftermath of a predictable natural disaster.

I'd avoid the ultra-high-end stuff. Get TWO spec-grade ARs: Colt 6920 or 6720, BCM M4, SOLGW, Sionics, etc. Set them up with Aimpoint Pro and a good light. Buy a 10-pack or two of Pmags or Okays and 2000 rounds of M855 or M193. You've spent your $4K.

That way instead of one too-fancy AR, you have two quality rifles. Never know when you might want to hand one off to a buddy / girlfriend / neighbor, etc. In the aftermath, if you have to leave, you have one for the car, and one to leave at home with someone else.
